Overview
The Litz LH-500A is a 500 mm horizontal machining center with a No.40 taper direct-drive spindle at 10,000 rpm. Travels are 700 mm (27.6 in) in X and 650 mm (25.6 in) in both Y and Z, and the two 500 x 500 mm (19.7 x 19.7 in) pallets each carry 500 kg (1,102 lb).
This is the general-purpose size of the range. A 500 mm pallet takes a four-sided tombstone of vises or a mid-sized gearbox or pump housing, and the work zone allows parts up to 700 mm (27.6 in) in diameter and 800 mm (31.5 in) high.
Tool capacity is the strong point of the A model. Sixty tools are standard, where the LH-500B has 40, and that matters on a horizontal: with four faces of a tombstone holding different parts, the tool list grows quickly. Each tool can be 380 mm (15.0 in) long and 8 kg (18 lb). Tool-to-tool time is 5 s.
The spindle delivers 120 Nm (89 lb-ft) from a 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) motor. Rapids are 36,000 mm/min (1,417 ipm) and the rotary pallet changer takes 18 s. Roller linear rails and hollow ballscrew cooling on the three axes are standard, as are a track type chip conveyor and an overhead chip wash-down system. Pallets index in 1° steps.
