Overview

The LiCON LiFLEX II 1276 is a twin-spindle horizontal machining center whose two spindles sit 1,200 mm (47 in) apart, with 1,200 mm (47 in) of X travel, 700 mm (28 in) of Y and 650 mm (26 in) of Z. Each spindle gets a working zone close to that of a full single-spindle machine: the LiFLEX I 1276 has 1,250 mm (49 in) of X on the same Y and Z.

The layout exists to cut two large parts in one cycle with one set of axes. LiCON lists the interference cube for the A / B axes as 1,600 / 1,199 mm (63 / 47 in). The second figure sits just under the spindle distance, and that is the practical limit on how wide each part and its fixture can be before the two stations meet.

Four torque options are listed, 100 / 200 / 350 / 500 Nm (74 / 148 / 258 / 367 ft-lb), with speeds of 8,000 - 16,000 rpm and an HSK 63 or HSK 100 interface. The 500 Nm (367 ft-lb) option goes beyond the LiFLEX I 1276 and the LiFLEX II 655, which both stop at 350 Nm (258 ft-lb), so this is the model to look at for heavy cuts in two parts at once. Which torque pairs with which speed and taper is not stated and belongs in the quotation.

Axis dynamics are 80 m/min (3,150 in/min) rapid traverse and 12 m/s² (472 in/s²) acceleration. Tool capacity is 60 / 120 / 144, the machine is offered in 4- or 5-axis form, and it is listed as available with i³-Technology. Dry machining, coolant and MQL are all listed.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Two spindles 1,200 mm (47 in) apart, so two large parts are machined per cycle
  • A 500 Nm (367 ft-lb) spindle option, above the 350 Nm (258 ft-lb) maximum of the LiFLEX I 1276
  • X travel of 1,200 mm (47 in) per spindle with 700 mm (28 in) of Y and 650 mm (26 in) of Z
  • 80 m/min (3,150 in/min) rapids and 12 m/s² (472 in/s²) acceleration despite the wide spindle pitch
  • Listed as available with i³-Technology

Limitations

  • Each part and fixture must stay within the 1,199 mm (47 in) interference figure set by the spindle distance
  • Tool capacity tops out at 144, against up to 176 on the LiFLEX I 1276
  • i³-Technology is listed as available, not as part of every machine, so confirm whether a quotation includes it
  • No spindle power, table load or machine weight is given in LiCON's table
06

Best For

Paired production of large parts, two per cycle at a 1,200 mm (47 in) spindle distance Heavy cutting with the 350 Nm (258 ft-lb) or 500 Nm (367 ft-lb) spindle options Parts and fixtures inside a 1,600 / 1,199 mm (63 / 47 in) interference cube Volume work in dry, coolant or MQL processes

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How far apart are the spindles on the LiFLEX II 1276?

The spindle distance is 1,200 mm (47 in), which is also the X travel. The interference cube for the A / B axes is 1,600 / 1,199 mm (63 / 47 in), so each of the two parts, with its fixture, has to stay just inside the spindle distance.

02 What torque options are available?

LiCON lists 100 / 200 / 350 / 500 Nm (74 / 148 / 258 / 367 ft-lb) as spindle options, with 8,000 - 16,000 rpm and HSK 63 or HSK 100. The table does not link a torque to a particular speed or taper, so the combination has to be confirmed when the machine is specified.

03 How does the LiFLEX II 1276 compare with the single-spindle LiFLEX I 1276?

Y and Z travel match at 700 mm (28 in) and 650 mm (26 in). The LiFLEX I 1276 has one spindle and 1,250 mm (49 in) of X with tool capacity of 60 / 96 / 120 / 160 / 176, while the LiFLEX II 1276 has two spindles, 1,200 mm (47 in) of X and a capacity of 60 / 120 / 144. The twin-spindle model also adds the 500 Nm (367 ft-lb) option.

04 Is i³-Technology included on the LiFLEX II 1276?

The precision technology row says the machine is available with i³-Technology. That wording means it can be supplied with it, so check that it appears in the quotation if the application needs it. The table gives no further figures for it.
