Overview

The LiCON LiFLEX II 344 is the compact twin-spindle LiFLEX: two HSK 63 spindles 320 mm (13 in) apart, 320 mm (13 in) of X travel and 400 mm (16 in) in both Y and Z. It comes in 4- or 5-axis configuration and is aimed at small parts made two at a time.

Everything about the spindle is scaled to small tools. Speed options are 12,000 - 20,000 rpm and torque is 73 / 85 Nm (54 / 63 ft-lb), with HSK 63 as the only interface. The next twin up, the LiFLEX II 655, is listed with 8,000 - 16,000 rpm and 100 / 200 / 350 Nm (74 / 148 / 258 ft-lb), so the choice between the two is as much about the cut as about part size. Drilling, tapping and light milling at high spindle speed fit this machine; heavy roughing does not.

Part size depends on loading. With direct loading or a pallet changer the interference cube for the A / B axes is 600 / 319 mm (24 / 13 in); with a double trunnion it is 400 / 319 mm (16 / 13 in). The second figure is fixed by the spindle distance in both cases.

Tool capacity is 64 / 96 / 192. The 192-tool magazine is larger than anything listed for the LiFLEX II 655, which stops at 168, and it matters on a twin because every tool is needed twice. Rapid traverse is 80 m/min (3,150 in/min) with 12 m/s² (472 in/s²) acceleration, the precision technology row reads i³-Technology by LiCON, and dry, coolant and MQL processes are listed.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Two spindles at a 320 mm (13 in) distance for two small parts per cycle
  • Spindle speed options of 12,000 - 20,000 rpm, higher than the 8,000 - 16,000 rpm of the LiFLEX II 655
  • Tool capacity up to 192, with 64 and 96 as the smaller choices
  • 12 m/s² (472 in/s²) acceleration and 80 m/min (3,150 in/min) rapids over short 320 mm (13 in) and 400 mm (16 in) strokes
  • i³-Technology by LiCON is listed for this model

Limitations

  • Torque is limited to 73 / 85 Nm (54 / 63 ft-lb); the LiFLEX II 655 offers up to 350 Nm (258 ft-lb)
  • HSK 63 only, with no HSK 100 option
  • Parts must fit a 319 mm (13 in) interference figure, and the double trunnion reduces the other figure to 400 mm (16 in)
  • No spindle power or table load is listed
06

Best For

Small parts produced in pairs at a 320 mm (13 in) spindle distance High-speed drilling and light milling at 12,000 - 20,000 rpm Operations needing many tools, with up to 192 in the magazine Trunnion work on parts inside a 400 / 319 mm (16 / 13 in) interference cube

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size parts suit the LiFLEX II 344?

Travels are 320 mm (13 in) in X and 400 mm (16 in) in Y and Z. The interference cube for the A / B axes is 600 / 319 mm (24 / 13 in) with direct loading or a pallet changer and 400 / 319 mm (16 / 13 in) with a double trunnion, so each part and fixture must stay within the 320 mm (13 in) spindle distance.

02 What spindle speed and torque does the LiFLEX II 344 offer?

The spindle options are 12,000 - 20,000 rpm with 73 / 85 Nm (54 / 63 ft-lb) of torque, on an HSK 63 interface. LiCON's table does not state which torque belongs to which speed, and it lists no spindle power.

03 How many tools can the LiFLEX II 344 carry?

Tool capacity is listed as 64 / 96 / 192. On a twin-spindle machine both spindles need the same tool for each operation, so the usable number of different tools is smaller than the pocket count suggests; plan the magazine size around that.

04 How is the LiFLEX II 344 different from the LiFLEX II 655?

The LiFLEX II 344 has a 320 mm (13 in) spindle distance and 400 mm (16 in) of Y and Z; the LiFLEX II 655 has a 600 mm (24 in) spindle distance and 550 mm (22 in) of Y and Z. The LiFLEX II 655 offers 100 / 200 / 350 Nm (74 / 148 / 258 ft-lb) and HSK 100 as well as HSK 63, where this model is listed with 73 / 85 Nm (54 / 63 ft-lb) on HSK 63 only.
