Overview

The LiCON LiFLEX II 655 puts two spindles 600 mm (24 in) apart on a horizontal machining center with 600 mm (24 in) of X travel and 550 mm (22 in) of Y and Z. In Y and Z it matches the single-spindle LiFLEX I 755, which also has 550 mm (22 in) on both, so a part that fits that machine in height and depth can usually be considered for paired production here, provided it is narrower than the spindle distance.

That width limit shows in the interference cube. For the A / B axes LiCON lists 1,000 / 599 mm (39 / 24 in) with direct loading or a pallet changer and 750 / 599 mm (30 / 24 in) with a double trunnion. The trunnion takes the first figure from 1,000 mm (39 in) down to 750 mm (30 in) and leaves the second unchanged.

Spindle choice is wider than on the single-spindle machine of the same height. Options are 8,000 - 16,000 rpm with 100 / 200 / 350 Nm (74 / 148 / 258 ft-lb) on HSK 63 or HSK 100, whereas the LiFLEX I 755 is listed with 100 / 200 Nm (74 / 148 ft-lb). The twin can therefore be ordered for steel and cast iron as well as for light alloys, though the table does not match each torque to a speed or taper.

Tool capacity is 60 / 120 / 168. The axes rapid at 80 m/min (3,150 in/min) and accelerate at 12 m/s² (472 in/s²). The machine is built in 4- or 5-axis configuration, runs dry, with coolant or with MQL, and is listed as available with i³-Technology.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Two spindles 600 mm (24 in) apart on 600 mm (24 in) of X and 550 mm (22 in) of Y and Z
  • Torque options up to 350 Nm (258 ft-lb), where the LiFLEX I 755 stops at 200 Nm (148 ft-lb)
  • Interference cube of 1,000 / 599 mm (39 / 24 in) with direct loading or pallet changer
  • Tool capacity of 60 / 120 / 168 and a choice of HSK 63 or HSK 100
  • Rapid traverse of 80 m/min (3,150 in/min) with 12 m/s² (472 in/s²) acceleration

Limitations

  • Each part and fixture is held to 599 mm (24 in) by the spindle distance
  • A double trunnion reduces the first interference figure from 1,000 mm (39 in) to 750 mm (30 in)
  • No 500 Nm (367 ft-lb) spindle option; that is listed only for the LiFLEX II 1276
  • Spindle power, table load and machine weight are not in the maker's table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels and spindle distance of the LiFLEX II 655?

The spindles are 600 mm (24 in) apart. X travel is 600 mm (24 in) and Y and Z are each 550 mm (22 in). Rapid traverse in X, Y and Z is 80 m/min (3,150 in/min) with 12 m/s² (472 in/s²) acceleration.

02 How does loading affect the part size on the LiFLEX II 655?

The interference cube for the A / B axes is 1,000 / 599 mm (39 / 24 in) with direct loading or a pallet changer, and 750 / 599 mm (30 / 24 in) with a double trunnion. The second figure follows the 600 mm (24 in) spindle distance and does not change with the loading method.

03 Which spindles can be ordered?

LiCON lists spindle options of 8,000 - 16,000 rpm with 100 / 200 / 350 Nm (74 / 148 / 258 ft-lb) of torque, on HSK 63 or HSK 100. The table gives no spindle power and does not say which torque goes with which speed, so settle the combination in the quotation.

04 Where does the LiFLEX II 655 sit among the twin-spindle models?

Between the two others. The LiFLEX II 344 has a 320 mm (13 in) spindle distance with 73 / 85 Nm (54 / 63 ft-lb) spindles, and the LiFLEX II 1276 has a 1,200 mm (47 in) spindle distance with options up to 500 Nm (367 ft-lb). The LiFLEX II 655 has 600 mm (24 in) and up to 350 Nm (258 ft-lb).
