Overview
On the LICO LNT-42S, tooling is spread over several carriers instead of one large turret. It is a multi-slide CNC automatic for bar up to 42 mm (1.62 in), with a 5,000 rpm spindle, and it is the second of four sizes in the LNT S series.
Start with the main turret. It has 8 positions, accepts VDI-30 x 55 holders, and takes turning tools of 20 mm (3/4 in) square section. X travel is 160 mm (6.3 in). In the LNTS-T3 version the main turret slide has 750 mm (29.53 in) of Z travel. Indexing is quoted as 0.28 sec / 180° - 0.6 sec, and the standard equipment list describes the turret as servo driven, with driven tools.
Nearer the spindle sits the compound slide, the part of the machine that earns the name multi-slide. Its stroke is short, 115 mm (4.52 in) in Z and 70 mm (2.75 in) in X, and its working feed is 5 m/min (197 ipm). A stroke that short suits forming, grooving and cut-off tools, which leaves the longer cuts to the turret. LICO also tabulates a Turret #2 or T2E turret with 8 positions, both optional accessories, and a Turret #3 with 200 mm (7.9 in) of Z and 150 mm (5.9 in) of X.
Behind all this the spindle is the same unit the LNT-36S uses in terms of power: 15 kW (20 HP) with the S840Dsl control or 11 kW (15 HP) with the M730. The through hole grows to 53 mm (2.1 in) and the draw tube to 43 mm (1.7 in). How many of the optional carriers a job needs is worth settling before ordering, because the table does not say which fit together.
