Overview

The MORI-SAY TM620CNC is a six-spindle, fully CNC-controlled automatic lathe for small bar: Ø 20 mm (0.8 in) round stock as standard, with 24 mm (0.9 in) given in brackets, and 17 mm hexagon. The six spindles run at up to 6,000 rpm on an 11 kW motor, and the drum indexes in 0.7 s.

It is the small CNC machine of the MORI-SAY line, and the maker ties it closely to the cam-driven 620AC: the brochure says special accessories from the MORI-SAY 620AC machines can be used on it, including a mechanically controlled recessing attachment. What changes is the motion. The standard version has 21 CNC controlled axes, and the control can drive a maximum of 34 axes and 9 CNC controlled spindles once accessories are added. Programming is in ISO or in VirtualCam, as the buyer prefers.

Slide strokes are short, as you would expect at this bar size. The five compound slides in stations 1 to 5 move 60 mm on X and 70 mm on Z with up to 3,200 N of force. The independent frontal slides W1 to W5 travel 110 mm with 2,500 N; W6 travels 310 mm. Station 6 carries the cut-off slide, X6, with 50 mm of stroke, and can take two optional tool slides, U6 and V6, of 80 mm each. A pick-up spindle is rated 6,000 rpm and 2.2 kW.

Working time is given as 3.5 - 90 s and bar feed length as 100 mm, so this is a machine for short parts in long runs. The maker names automotive, hydraulic and pneumatic components. The control is a Fanuc i30-B Plus with two operator panels, and the electrical cabinets are built into the machine. With a 3.3 m bar loader the installation is 8,049 x 1,434 x 2,794 mm; the machine alone is 3,834 mm long.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 21 CNC controlled axes in the standard version, expandable to a maximum of 34 axes and 9 CNC controlled spindles
  • Six spindles at up to 6,000 rpm with a 0.7 s indexing time
  • Programming in ISO or VirtualCam on a Fanuc i30-B Plus with two touch-screen panels
  • Compound slides in stations 1 to 5 as standard, each with 3,200 N of force on X and Z
  • Accepts special accessories from the cam-driven MORI-SAY 620AC
  • Integrated electrical cabinets keep the machine itself to 3,834 mm (150.9 in) in length

Limitations

  • Bar feed length is 100 mm (3.9 in), so long parts are out of scope
  • Spindle speed drops to 4,500 rpm on a machine with stop of spindles
  • The U6 and V6 tool slides at the cut-off station are optional accessories
  • With the 3.3 m bar loader the line is 8,049 mm (316.9 in) long

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What bar size does the MORI-SAY TM620CNC run?

The table gives the maximum diameter of round bar with bar loader as 20 mm (24 mm), a maximum hexagon rod of 17 mm, a maximum material length of 4,000 mm and a maximum feeding length of 100 mm. The maker's description repeats ø 20 mm with ø 24 mm in brackets without stating the condition for the larger size, so confirm it before quoting 24 mm work.

02 How many axes does it have?

Altogether 21 CNC controlled axes in the standard version. The maker says another 13 are available for special accessories, which gives the maximum of 34 controlled axes shown in the table, with a maximum of 9 CNC controlled spindles.

03 What slides are standard?

Five compound slides in stations 1 to 5, six independent frontal slides and one cut-off slide. Compound slides move 60 mm on X1 - X5 and 70 mm on Z1 - Z5. Frontal slides W1 – W5 move 110 mm and W6 moves 310 mm. The cut-off slide X6 has a 50 mm stroke; its two tool slides U6 and V6 are optional.

04 How fast is the cycle?

Indexing time is 0.7 s and working time is listed as 3.5 - 90 s. Main spindles run to 6,000 rpm, or 4,500 rpm on a machine with stop of spindles, driven by an 11 kW (14.8 hp) spindle motor.

05 How is it programmed?

On a Fanuc i30-B Plus with 2 pcs of 21 in multi-touch display. The XZ axes and the W axes in positions 1 - 6 can be programmed in ISO or in VirtualCam. The table also lists connection to a computer network and remote access for service.
