Overview

The LICO LNT-36S is the smallest of the four multi-slide CNC automatics in the LNT S series: a bar machine with a 36 mm (1.42 in) collet capacity, a 6,000 rpm spindle and an 8-position servo turret that works next to a short-stroke compound slide. LICO lists the same frame dimensions and weight for all four sizes, so choosing between them is a question of bar diameter and spindle.

The layout follows the logic of a cam automatic, with CNC axes where the cams used to be. A compound slide close to the spindle travels 115 mm (4.52 in) in Z and 70 mm (2.75 in) in X, with rapids of 25 m/min (984 ipm) in Z and 15 m/min (591 ipm) in X. The main turret has 160 mm (6.3 in) of X travel. Short strokes on several slides are the point: more than one tool can cut a short part at once, and none of them has far to go.

Spindle power depends on the control. LICO gives 15 kW (20 HP) with the S840Dsl and 11 kW (15 HP) with the M730. The spindle through hole is 44 mm (1.7 in), the draw tube 37 mm (1.5 in), and the collet chuck is an F42. Of the four sizes this one turns fastest, which helps on small diameters where surface speed is otherwise hard to reach.

The second side is handled by a pick-off device. It sits on the turret, takes hold of the part before cut-off while running in step with the main spindle, then indexes round to a back machining platform that takes up to 4 gang tool holders or up to 3 live tool units. Its own speed limit is 3,000 rpm.

Floor space is 2,804 x 1,848 x 1,935 mm (110 x 72 x 76 in) and net weight 3,200 kg (7,040 lb). The connected load is listed as 25 kVA. A bar loader interface is standard; the automatic bar loader itself is an option.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 6,000 rpm maximum spindle speed, the highest of the LNT S sizes; the LNT-42S is listed at 5,000 rpm
  • Compound slide rapids of 25 m/min (984 ipm) in Z and 15 m/min (591 ipm) in X over a 115 mm (4.52 in) stroke
  • The 8-position servo tool turret with driven tools is on the standard equipment list
  • Pick-off device and back machining tool holders are standard, so both ends of a part are finished in one cycle
  • A 48-position spindle dividing system and a bar loader interface are standard equipment

Limitations

  • Bar capacity ends at 36 mm (1.42 in); the LNT-42S, LNT-51S and LNT-65S exist for larger stock
  • Spindle power is 11 kW (15 HP) with the M730 control, against 15 kW (20 HP) with the S840Dsl
  • Turret #2, the T2E turret, the high pressure coolant system and the chip conveyor are optional accessories
  • At 3,200 kg (7,040 lb) net it is a heavy machine for a 36 mm (1.42 in) bar, and the automatic bar loader adds to the footprint
06

Best For

Small turned parts from bar up to 36 mm (1.42 in) Short brass and aluminium fittings that can use 6,000 rpm Parts finished on both ends with the pick-off device Long unattended runs with an automatic bar loader on the standard interface

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What bar size does the LICO LNT-36S take?

The collet bar capacity is 36 mm (1.42 in) through an F42 collet chuck. The spindle through hole is 44 mm (1.7 in) and the draw tube 37 mm (1.5 in), and the draw tube is what the bar has to pass.

02 How does the LNT-36S differ from the LNT-42S?

Bar capacity and top speed. The LNT-36S takes 36 mm (1.42 in) bar and runs to 6,000 rpm. The LNT-42S takes 42 mm bar through an F48 (Ø42) collet chuck and is listed at 5,000 rpm. Spindle power, slide travels, machine dimensions and weight are the same in LICO's table.

03 Can the LNT-36S machine the back of a part?

Yes. A pick-off device is standard. It grips the part before cut-off, synchronised with the main spindle, and indexes it to a back machining platform for up to 4 gang tool holders or up to 3 live tool units. The pick-off runs to 3,000 rpm.

04 How much spindle power does the LNT-36S have?

It depends on the control: 15 kW (20 HP) with the S840Dsl or 11 kW (15 HP) with the M730. Maximum spindle speed is 6,000 rpm in both cases, and the total power required is 25 kVA.

05 How large is the LNT-36S?

LICO lists 2,804 x 1,848 x 1,935 mm (110 x 72 x 76 in) as length, width and height, with a weight of 3,200 kg (7,040 lb) net; 4,000 kg (8,800 lb) gross. The coolant tank holds 200 L and the hydraulic tank 30 L.
