PAMA Speedmill — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the PAMA Speedmill that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from PAMA or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

There is no boring bar on the PAMA Speedmill. It is a horizontal floor type milling machine whose ram carries either a driver for attachment heads or a spindle, both with Direct Drive, and the work is done by the heads. That makes it the milling specialist among PAMA's floor-type machines.

PAMA names the two ram versions MDD, a headstock-ram equipped with a driver, and FDD, a headstock-ram equipped with a spindle. The table gives the ram spindle as 66 - 82 kW and 822 - 2,494 Nm (S1) at 4,000 - 6,000 rpm. A universal head is listed separately at 37 / 50 kW and 1,000 / 1,200 Nm with a spindle speed of 6,000 rpm, and its A and C axes index to 360,000 positions. With that resolution the head can be set to practically any angle for five-sided machining.

The structure favours speed. X and Y run on roller guideways, the column is thermally symmetric with a central headstock, and rapid feed is up to 35,000 mm/min on X, Y and Z. The ram, 430 x 430 - 500 x 500 mm in section, is guided by hydrostatic pads and has real-time compensation for thermal elongation.

Travels match the Speedmill B: Y of 2,000 - 5,000 mm, Z of 1,200 - 2,000 mm, and X of 5,000 mm plus extensions of 1,000 mm. The series has four sizes, 1000 to 4000.

Attachment heads are thermally stabilised by fluid at controlled temperature. Tables, tool magazines and head magazines are selected per order, with Siemens, Heidenhain or Fanuc CNC.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Direct Drive ram spindle at 4,000 - 6,000 rpm with 66 - 82 kW (S1)
  • Universal head whose A and C axes index to 360,000 positions, with 37 / 50 kW and 1,000 / 1,200 Nm
  • Roller guideways on X and Y; rapids up to 35,000 mm/min
  • Ram guided by hydrostatic pads with real-time thermal compensation
  • Choice of driver (MDD) or spindle (FDD) ram

Limitations

  • No boring bar and no W axis; boring depth is limited to ram travel and tool length
  • Y travel ends at 5,000 mm
  • Ram travel is 1,200 - 2,000 mm
  • Published figures are series ranges; the per-size values come with the quotation

Best For

Five-sided milling of large fabrications and castings Angled faces and features using the universal head Parts within 5,000 mm of Y travel Milling-dominated work that does not need a boring bar

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Does the PAMA Speedmill have a boring spindle?

No. The Speedmill is a milling machine with a ram that carries a driver (MDD) or a spindle (FDD), both Direct Drive. The version with a boring bar and a W axis is the Speedmill B, which lists a boring spindle of 120 - 160 mm.

02 What are the spindle ratings of the Speedmill?

The ram headstock is listed with 66 - 82 kW and 822 - 2,494 Nm in S1 and a spindle speed of 4,000 - 6,000 rpm. The universal head is listed with 37 / 50 kW, 1,000 / 1,200 Nm and 6,000 rpm.

03 How finely does the universal head index?

PAMA lists A/C axis positioning as 360,000 positions. Attachment heads are thermally stabilised with fluid recirculated at a controlled temperature, and lubrication is by air-oil or climatised oil recirculation, according to the maker.

04 What travels does the Speedmill offer?

X travel of the column is 5,000 mm plus 1,000 mm extensions, Y travel of the headstock 2,000 - 5,000 mm and Z travel of the ram 1,200 - 2,000 mm. Rapid feed on all three is up to 35,000 mm/min. Four sizes are listed, 1000 to 4000.
