How much does the Kiwa KH-4500kai cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Kiwa KH-4500kai that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Kiwa KH-4500kai is a 40-taper horizontal machining center with 700 x 740 x 680 mm (27.6 x 29.1 x 26.8 in) of X, Y and Z travel and a maximum workpiece of Ø750 x 1,000 mm (Ø29.5 x 39.4 in). What defines it is how much of the build is left open. Kiwa lists four spindles, two pallet sizes, four pallet counts, four magazine sizes and three controls for this one model.
The standard build is a two-pallet machine with 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in) pallets, a 10,000 min-1 direct-drive spindle, a 40-tool magazine and the FANUC 32i control. Note the base spindle speed. The KH-4200kai and KH-5800kai both start at 12,000 min-1, so on the KH-4500kai that speed is something to specify, alongside 15,000 min-1 direct drive and a 20,000 min-1 built-in spindle.
The pallet choices change what kind of machine this is. A 500 x 500 mm (19.7 x 19.7 in) pallet is optional for larger fixture bases. With six or eight pallets it becomes a small pallet-pool cell, and a single-pallet version is listed for work that does not need a changer. The table gives one workpiece limit without saying which pallet it belongs to, so confirm it for the configuration being ordered.
Magazine options of 60, 120 and 240 tools sit above the standard 40, and the large magazines change the footprint. Kiwa lists 2,778 x 4,678 mm (109.4 x 184.2 in) for the two-pallet machine with the 40 or 60 tool magazine and 2,923 x 4,678 mm (115.1 x 184.2 in) with 120 or 240 tools. Both figures exclude the coolant tank and the chip conveyor, so the installed area is larger than either.
Rapid traverse is 80,000 mm/min (3,150 ipm) on the linear axes, and the B axis turns at 66.6 rev/min.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Travels of 700 mm (27.6 in) in X, 740 mm (29.1 in) in Y and 680 mm (26.8 in) in Z, with workpieces up to Ø750 x 1,000 mm (Ø29.5 x 39.4 in)
- Listed with a single pallet or with two, six or eight pallets, so one model covers a stand-alone machine and a pallet-pool cell
- Magazine options reach 240 tools, above the standard 40
- Optional 500 x 500 mm (19.7 x 19.7 in) pallet in place of the standard 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in)
- Three optional spindles: 12,000 and 15,000 min-1 direct drive and 20,000 min-1 built-in, with HSK-A63 listed as a taper option
- 80,000 mm/min (3,150 ipm) rapids and a B axis that turns at 66.6 rev/min
Limitations
- The standard spindle is 10,000 min-1, where the KH-4200kai and KH-5800kai list 12,000 min-1 as standard
- Listed floor space leaves out the coolant tank as well as the chip conveyor, so 2,778 x 4,678 mm (109.4 x 184.2 in) understates the installed area
- Choosing the 120 or 240 tool magazine widens the footprint to 2,923 x 4,678 mm (115.1 x 184.2 in)
- The larger pallet, the pallet pool, the big magazines and the faster spindles are all options; the standard machine has 400 x 400 mm pallets, 40 tools and a two-pallet changer

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Two pallets of 400 x 400 mm (15.7 x 15.7 in) are standard. The options are a 500 x 500 mm (19.7 x 19.7 in) pallet, a single-pallet machine, and six or eight pallets. The floor-space figures in the table are for the two-pallet machine only, so ask for the layout of a six or eight pallet system.
02
The standard spindle is a 10,000 min-1 direct-drive unit. Kiwa lists 12,000 min-1 and 15,000 min-1 direct-drive spindles and a 20,000 min-1 built-in spindle as options. The taper is BT40 as standard with CAT40 or HSK-A63 optional. No power or torque figures are among the listed rows, so request the curve for the spindle you are considering.
03
The standard magazine holds 40 tools, with 60, 120 and 240 as options. The footprint depends on the choice: 2,778 x 4,678 mm (109.4 x 184.2 in) with the 40 or 60 tool magazine and 2,923 x 4,678 mm (115.1 x 184.2 in) with 120 or 240 tools, in both cases for the two-pallet machine without coolant tank or chip conveyor.
04
The KH-4500kai is the larger and more configurable machine: 700 x 740 x 680 mm of travel, an optional 500 x 500 mm pallet and magazines up to 240 tools. The KH-4200kai travels 560 x 660 x 560 mm, keeps the 400 x 400 mm pallet and carries 60 tools, but the KH-4200kai is quicker in standard form, with a 12,000 min-1 spindle and 90,000 mm/min (3,543 ipm) rapids against 10,000 min-1 and 80,000 mm/min (3,150 ipm).
05
The FANUC 32i is the standard control, with the FANUC 31i and 0i-M listed as options. The table names the controls only and lists no control functions, so settle the control choice together with the pallet count and magazine size you plan to run.
