Overview
The Johnford VTC-2500ATC is a three-metre vertical turning center. Maximum swing and turning diameter are Ø3,000 mm (Ø118.1 in), the work table is Ø2,500 mm (Ø98.4 in), and the table load is 15,000 kg (33,000 lb).
Mechanically it is close kin to the VTC-2000ATC. Both list 44,556 Nm (32,865 lb-ft) of torque, a 45 / 55 kW (60.3 / 73.8 hp) motor with a 60 / 75 kW (80.5 / 100.6 hp) option, 2-160 rpm at the table, 1,600 mm (63 in) of turning height and 1,000 mm of ram and cross rail travel. What the 2500 adds is half a metre of diameter and half as much load again over the 10,000 kg (22,000 lb) of the VTC-2000ATC. X travel goes to 1,935 mm (76.2 in).
Same torque at a larger radius means a lighter cut at the rim. A shop that mostly roughs at full diameter should note it. One that mostly needs the swing, for thin-walled rings, fabricated drums or large covers, loses nothing.
Fifteen tonnes on the table opens the machine to hydro turbine runners, large pump casings, crusher parts and mill heads. The standard table has 4 independent jaws; parts like these are usually set up on them with jacks and clamps, not in a chuck.
