Overview

The Johnford ST-60CH puts the A2-15 spindle and a 510 mm (20.1 in) chuck on 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of Z travel, with 920 mm (36.2 in) of swing over the bed.

It is a machine for parts that are both wide and moderately long: pump casings, large hubs with a shaft end, short rolls. Such parts are typically roughed hard and then finished at a few critical diameters, and the specification suits that sequence. The roughing is done by 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp), or by the optional 37 / 45 kW (49.6 / 60.3 hp), through four automatic speeds. The finishing benefits from the 200 mm (7.9 in) spindle bearing and from 7 kW drives on both axes.

Speeds are 1,500 rpm for the standard belt-type gearbox and 1,200 rpm for the geared headstock.

The table lists the weight as 13,250 kg (29,150 lb). That is well above the ST-60BH at 12,200 kg (26,840 lb), and close to the ST-70CH at 13,350 kg (29,370 lb), although that machine is the longer one. Dimensions are 6,195 x 2,270 x 2,765 mm (243.9 x 89.4 x 108.9 in). Tailstock travel is 900 mm (35.4 in).
