Overview

The Johnford LC-60 is the top of Johnford's flat-bed range and the only LC model with larger drives. It swings 1,550 mm (61 in) over the bed and 1,100 mm (43.3 in) over the cross slide.

Every motor row differs from the LC-40 and LC-50 columns. The spindle motor is 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp), with 37 / 45 kW (49.6 / 60.3 hp) as the option. The X-axis servo motor is 4 kW, the Z-axis servo motor 7 kW and the C-axis motor 3 kW. With a carriage that has to feed a tool through a cut at a radius of half a metre or more, the heavier Z drive is the one that counts.

What stays the same is the 1,145 mm (45 in) bed width, the automatic 4-speed gearbox, the ten spindle variants from B to K and the tailstock with its Ø250 mm (9.8 in) quill. An auto 4-speed gearhead for heavier cutting is an option.

Rapid traverse is 6 m/min on X and 8 m/min on Z. On beds that can reach 20,000 mm between centers, long moves take time, and a second carriage is on the options list: an additional CNC-driven carriage for a boring bar system. Listed weights run from 24,000 kg (model 6080) to 38,000 kg (model 60360).

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What makes the LC-60 different from the LC-50?

Swing and drives. The LC-50 swings 1,275 mm (50.2 in) over the bed with a 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) motor and 3 kW and 4 kW axis motors. The LC-60 swings 1,550 mm (61 in) with 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp) and 4 kW and 7 kW axis motors.

02 How long can an LC-60 be?

Distances between centers are listed as 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000, 7,000, 8,000 and 9,000 mm, and up to 20,000 mm. The model names in the heading run from 6080 to 60480.
