Overview

Top of the HT range by every measure, the Johnford HT-100-2SD has twin turrets, twin spindles and 2,500 mm (98.4 in) between centers. With spindle E it weighs 24,200 kg (53,240 lb), more than any other HT model.

No other HT gives this much Z travel to both turrets with a spindle at each end: 2,500 mm (98.4 in) on Z1 and Z2. The tailstock machine of the same length, the HT-100-2D, limits its second turret to 2,260 mm (89 in).

The outside dimensions are 6,600 x 3,595 x 2,940 mm (259.8 x 141.5 x 115.7 in). Swing over the bed is Ø690 mm (27.2 in), and Ø600 mm (23.6 in) clears the cross slide, with 320 mm (12.6 in) of X travel on each turret.

For very long parts the two spindles act as a pair. A tube can be fed through the main spindle bore, up to Ø236 mm (9.3 in) on variant E, gripped again by the sub-spindle and supported in between by optional hydraulic steady rests. Main spindle speeds run from 3,000 rpm on variant A with the 12 in chuck down to 750 rpm on E. The standard motors are 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) and 30 / 37 kW (40.2 / 49.6 hp); 37 / 45 kW (49.6 / 60.3 hp) is the largest option, on C, D and E.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Is the HT-100-2SD the largest HT lathe?

It shares the longest bed, 2,500 mm (98.4 in) between centers, with the HT-100-2S and HT-100-2D, and it is the heaviest: 24,000 kg (52,800 lb) with spindle A and 24,200 kg (53,240 lb) with spindle E.

02 What separates the HT-100-2SD from the HT-100-2D?

The HT-100-2D has a tailstock with a Ø200 mm (7.9 in) MT#7 quill, and its Z2 axis travels 2,260 mm (89 in). The HT-100-2SD has a sub-spindle instead, and both Z axes travel 2,500 mm (98.4 in).

03 What transmissions do the HT-100-2SD spindles use?

Main spindle variants A and B have an Auto Hi-Lo transmission and C, D and E four automatic steps; four steps are optional on B. The sub-spindle is one step alongside variant A and Auto Hi-Lo alongside B to E.

04 What is the footprint of the HT-100-2SD?

6,600 x 3,595 mm (259.8 x 141.5 in), with a height of 2,940 mm (115.7 in). Foundation bolts and levelling pads are supplied with the machine.
