Overview
The Johnford DMC-3100H is the longest No.50 machine on Johnford's 1,300 mm double column frame. Its table is 3,200 x 1,100 mm, X travel is 3,050 mm, Y is 1,300 mm (51.2 in) and Z is 800 mm (31.5 in). The spindle is BT-50 / CAT-50 with a 15 / 18.5 kW (20.1 / 24.8 hp) Hi Lo Gear drive.
Length and a heavy spindle point to a specific kind of part: machine tool beds and columns, long press components, rail and guide blocks, large fabricated frames. These are faced, slotted and bored along their length, usually with big cutters at low speed, and the 6,000 rpm standard spindle with its 90 mm (3.5 in) bearing diameter is specified for exactly that. Tools can be Ø200 mm (Ø7.8 in), 400 mm (15.7 in) long and 15 kg (33 lb).
