We do not have a price for the Ganesh GEN MILL HSD-1000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The GEN MILL HSD-1000 is a double-column, bridge-style vertical machining center, a different structure from a C-frame machine. The spindle head rides on a bridge supported at both sides of the table. Expand Machinery compares the construction to a CMM and sells the machine as a super precision VMC for that reason.
Travels are 40.15 in (1,020 mm) in X, 33.46 in (850 mm) in Y and 19.68 in (500 mm) in Z, with a 750 mm Z option. The Y figure is the notable one: a C-frame machine of similar X travel, the GEN MILL 4024, has 23.62 in (600 mm). The table is 47.24 x 39.37 in (1,200 x 1,000 mm), hardened and ground, and rated for 2,000 lb (900 kg) evenly distributed.
The spindle is a 15,000 rpm inline direct-drive beltless unit with a dual-contact CAT 40 taper and closed-circuit refrigeration under a digital temperature controller. HSK and other speeds are available. All three axes rapid at 1,181 ipm (30 m/min) on 45 mm heavy-duty roller guideways and 50 mm ballscrews, each driven by a 4.7 HP (3.5 kW) motor. Linear scales with a resolution of 0.05 micrometer are in the specification, and the feature list gives them as optional.
The control is described with 2,700 block look-ahead and a rate of 4,500 blocks per second, figures aimed at mold and die finishing. A 48-tool changer swaps tools in 2.7 sec. At 28,665 lb (13,000 kg) the machine is heavier than the GEN MILL 6328 despite its shorter X travel. The table here gives no spindle power, so request the motor rating with the quotation.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Double-column bridge construction with 33.46 in (850 mm) of Y travel
- 15,000 rpm inline direct-drive spindle with dual-contact CAT 40 taper and refrigerated cooling
- 45 mm heavy-duty roller guideways and 50 mm ballscrews on all three axes
- 48-tool changer with a 2.7 sec tool-to-tool time
- Linear scales with 0.05 micrometer resolution offered
- Control with 2,700 block look-ahead
Limitations
- Z travel is 19.68 in (500 mm) unless the 750 mm option is ordered
- Table load of 2,000 lb (900 kg) is low for a table of 47.24 x 39.37 in (1,200 x 1,000 mm)
- The linear scales are given as optional in the feature list
- At 28,665 lb (13,000 kg) and 130 x 118 in of floor it is a large installation

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The spindle head is carried on a bridge supported by a column on each side of the table, instead of hanging from a single column behind it. Expand Machinery describes it as heavy-duty double-column bridge-style construction and compares it to a CMM. The layout allows 33.46 in (850 mm) of Y travel.
02
X is 40.15 in (1,020 mm), Y is 33.46 in (850 mm) and Z is 19.68 in (500 mm), with 750 mm of Z as an option. The hardened and ground table is 47.24 x 39.37 in (1,200 x 1,000 mm) and carries 2,000 lb (900 kg) evenly distributed. Spindle nose to table is 7.87 - 31.49 in (200 - 800 mm).
03
A 15,000 rpm inline direct-drive beltless spindle with a dual-contact CAT 40 taper, where both shank and flange seat. A spindle chiller is included, using closed-circuit refrigeration with a digital temperature controller. The maker says other speeds and HSK are available.
04
The specification lists a linear scale resolution of 0.05 micrometer, which is 50 nanometer, and the feature list describes that resolution in X, Y and Z as optional. Treat the scales as an option and confirm them in the quotation.
05
Rapid traverse is 1,181 ipm (30 m/min) in X, Y and Z. Tool change is 2.7 sec tool-to-tool with 48 tools in the changer. The control is listed with 2,700 block look-ahead.
