Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Johnford DMC-4100S that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
At four metres the DMC-S frame becomes a different installation. The Johnford DMC-4100S has 4,100 mm (161.4 in) of X travel and a 4,200 x 1,500 mm (165.4 x 59 in) table, and it weighs 37,500 kg (82,500 lb). The DMC-3100S, one size down, weighs 26,000 kg (57,270 lb). Length grows to 11,590 mm (456.3 in) and height to 4,013 mm (158 in).
So the planning questions come first: crane capacity, foundation, door height, and the route into the building. The working figures are familiar from the rest of the frame. Y is 1,778 mm (70 in), Z is 800 mm (31.5 in), and the distance between columns is 1,796 mm (70.7 in).
This is the 40-taper version. A BT-40 / CAT-40 spindle on a 70 mm (2.8 in) bearing turns at 8,000 or 10,000 rpm, with 12,000 rpm optional. The geared motor is 7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp) and the built-in alternative 18.5 / 23 kW (24.8 / 30.8 hp). On a four-metre table that points to work where the area matters more than the chip load: aluminium structural parts, large fixture plates, drilling and tapping patterns in long rails.
One limit does not scale with the table. The load rating is 10,000 kg (22,000 lb), unchanged from the DMC-2100S, which has roughly half the table length. Long steel parts reach that figure quickly. Johnford raises the rating only on the next two lengths, to 12,000 kg (26,400 lb) on the DMC-5100S and 14,000 kg (30,800 lb) on the DMC-6100S.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 4,100 mm (161.4 in) of X travel over a 4,200 x 1,500 mm (165.4 x 59 in) table
- Spindle speeds of 8,000 and 10,000 rpm, with 12,000 rpm as an option
- 37,500 kg (82,500 lb) of machine under a 40-taper spindle
- Standard Fanuc 0i-MF PLUS control with a 10.4 in LCD and Manual Guide i
Limitations
- Table load stays at 10,000 kg (22,000 lb) despite the four-metre table
- 11,590 x 4,600 x 4,013 mm (456.3 x 181.1 x 158 in) footprint needs a planned foundation
- Tools no longer than 320 mm (12.6 in) and no heavier than 10 kg (22 lb)
- Rapids of 12 m/min (472 ipm) make long X moves slow

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The maker's table gives 37,500 kg (82,500 lb) for the DMC-4100S and 26,000 kg (57,270 lb) for the DMC-3100S, and the height rises from 3,883 mm (152.9 in) on the DMC-3100S to 4,013 mm (158 in). The page does not explain the change in construction; the figures show that the three longest S models form a heavier group.
02
10,000 kg (22,000 lb). That is the same rating as the shortest model of the frame, so parts that are heavy for their length need checking against it.
03
Yes: the DMC-4100P has 4,100 mm (161.4 in) of X with 2,300 mm (90.5 in) of Y, a 4,200 x 2,050 mm (165.3 x 80.7 in) table rated 13,000 kg (28,600 lb), and weighs 42,200 kg (92,840 lb).

7.5 / 11 kW (10.1 / 14.8 hp) with the Hi Lo Gear drive, or 18.5 / 23 kW (24.8 / 30.8 hp) with the built-in spindle. For more power on the same frame, the DMC-4100SH has a 22 / 26 kW (29.5 / 34.9 hp) geared 50-taper spindle.
