Overview

The Hwacheon SIRIUS-1250 is a wide-table 50-taper vertical with 2,500 mm (98.4 in) of X, 1,250 mm (49.2 in) of Y and 750 mm (29.5 in) of Z over a 2,800 x 1,250 mm (110.2 x 49.2 in) table. Its defining choice is the tool magazine: the base machine carries only 8 tools, and a 40-tool magazine is the option.

The two configurations behave differently. With the 8-tool magazine, tool selection is fixed address and every pocket takes a Ø200 mm (Ø7.9 in) tool, neighbours or not, which suits large face mills and a short list of heavy cutters. With the 40-tool magazine, selection becomes memory random and diameter with adjacent tools drops to Ø120 mm (Ø4.7 in), Ø200 mm with the pockets beside it empty. Weight rises from 23,000 kg (50,706 lb) to 25,500 kg (56,217 lb), and the floor space grows from 7,305 x 3,975 mm (287.6 x 156.5 in) to 7,305 x 4,145 mm (287.6 x 163.2 in). Tool length is 350 mm (13.8 in) and weight 20 kg (44 lb) either way.

The table lists a maximum workpiece passage of 1,535 x 775 mm (60.4 x 30.5 in) and 250 ~ 1,000 mm (9.8 ~ 39.4 in) from spindle nose to table. A part that is wider than 1,535 mm or taller than 775 mm will not pass, however much table there is. The table itself takes 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) and has seven 22 x 160 mm (0.87 x 6.30 in) T-slots.

Against the SIRIUS-1050, this machine trades 100 mm of Z (750 against 850 mm) and the faster 20 m/min X and Y rapids for 200 mm more Y and a wider table. Rapids here are 16 / 16 / 16 m/min (630 / 630 / 630 ipm). The spindle is the series' built-in BBT-50 unit at 8,000 or 12,000 rpm, rated 30 / 25 kW (40.2 / 33.5 hp), on a Fanuc 31i-B.

Services are 75 kVA and 0.5 ~ 0.7 MPa x 1,870 NL/min of air. The coolant tank is 450 L (119 US gal), well under the 1,250 L of the SIRIUS-1050, and the machine stands 3,960 mm (155.9 in) tall.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,250 mm (49.2 in) of Y over a 2,800 x 1,250 mm (110.2 x 49.2 in) table for wide plates and multi-fixture layouts
  • In the base 8-tool fixed-address magazine every pocket takes a Ø200 mm (Ø7.9 in) tool
  • 40-tool memory-random magazine available, at Ø120 / Ø200 mm (Ø4.7 / Ø7.9 in) with / without adjacent tools
  • 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) table load with seven 22 x 160 mm (0.87 x 6.30 in) T-slots
  • Built-in BBT-50 spindle at 8,000 or 12,000 rpm rated 30 / 25 kW (40.2 / 33.5 hp)

Limitations

  • Only 8 tools as standard; jobs with many operations need the optional 40-tool magazine
  • Workpiece passage is limited to 1,535 x 775 mm (60.4 x 30.5 in), narrower than the table
  • Rapids are 16 / 16 / 16 m/min (630 / 630 / 630 ipm), against 20 m/min in X and Y on the SIRIUS-1050
  • Coolant tank is 450 L (119 US gal), small for flood cooling on a table this size

Best For

Wide plates and frames up to 1,250 mm (49.2 in) in Y Heavy face milling with Ø200 mm (Ø7.9 in) cutters in every pocket Short-tool-list jobs on large parts with the 8-tool magazine Multi-fixture setups on a 2,800 x 1,250 mm (110.2 x 49.2 in) table

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the 8-tool and 40-tool SIRIUS-1250?

The 8-tool magazine is fixed address and takes Ø200 mm (Ø7.9 in) tools in every pocket. The optional 40-tool magazine is memory random and takes Ø120 mm (Ø4.7 in) with adjacent tools, Ø200 mm without. The 40-tool machine weighs 25,500 kg (56,217 lb) instead of 23,000 kg (50,706 lb) and needs 7,305 x 4,145 mm (287.6 x 163.2 in) of floor instead of 7,305 x 3,975 mm (287.6 x 156.5 in).

02 How large a part can pass through the SIRIUS-1250?

The maximum workpiece passage is 1,535 x 775 mm (60.4 x 30.5 in), width by height. The spindle nose sits 250 ~ 1,000 mm (9.8 ~ 39.4 in) above the 2,800 x 1,250 mm (110.2 x 49.2 in) table, so check both the part's width and its height plus fixture before quoting.

03 How does the SIRIUS-1250 differ from the SIRIUS-1350?

Both have a 2,800 x 1,250 mm (110.2 x 49.2 in) table. The SIRIUS-1350 rates it for 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) against 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) here, starts with 40 tools (opt.: 60) instead of 8 (opt.: 40), and offers an 8,000 rpm high-torque spindle at 55 / 30 kW (73.8 / 40.2 hp). It weighs 25,000 kg (55,115 lb).

04 What services does the SIRIUS-1250 need?

A 75 kVA electrical supply and 0.5 ~ 0.7 MPa x 1,870 NL/min of compressed air. The coolant tank holds 450 L (119 US gal) and the machine is 3,960 mm (155.9 in) tall, so check crane hook height in the bay as well as floor area.
