How much does the Hwacheon Hi-TECH 850BB/BB+ cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hwacheon Hi-TECH 850BB/BB+ that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hwacheon Hi-TECH 850BB/BB+ is the largest big-bore lathe in the Hi-TECH line, built around an A2-20 spindle nose. The BB passes Ø295 mm (Ø11.6 in) through a Ø300 mm (Ø11.8 in) bore at up to 1,000 rpm. The BB+ opens that to a Ø375 mm (Ø14.8 in) bore and Ø370 mm (Ø14.6 in) through-capacity, at up to 750 rpm. Both are driven by 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp).
For tube and casing, the bore is what decides between this and the Hi-TECH 700BB/BB+, whose largest bore is Ø300 mm (Ø11.8 in) on its BB+ version. Here that figure is the starting point, and the BB+ goes to Ø375 mm (Ø14.8 in). The front spindle bearing grows with it, from Ø360 mm (Ø14.2 in) on the BB to Ø440 mm (Ø17.3 in) on the BB+. The 750 rpm ceiling of the BB+ is low for small diameters but is in keeping with large tube ends, where the cutting diameter, not the spindle, sets the surface speed.
Outside the spindle the machine follows the Hi-TECH 850: Ø1,050 mm (Ø41.3 in) swing, Ø920 mm (Ø36.2 in) turning diameter for lengths up to 385 mm (15.2 in), 485 mm (19.1 in) of X (430 mm (16.9 in) on the XL), and Z travel of 2,650 mm (104.3 in), 3,650 mm (143.7 in) or 5,250 mm (206.7 in) by bed. The table does not give a maximum turning length for the BB models. Rapids are 10 / 12 m/min (394 / 472 ipm) in X / Z.
No chuck is listed as standard; the option is a Ø630 mm (Ø24.8 in) air chuck. The control is a FANUC 0i-TF Plus with a FANUC 31i-B available. Weight is 22,000 to 23,500 kg (48,501 to 51,808 lb) on the standard bed and up to 30,000 to 33,700 kg (66,138 to 74,295 lb) on the XL.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Bore and speed. The BB has a Ø300 mm (Ø11.8 in) bore, Ø295 mm (Ø11.6 in) through-capacity, a Ø360 mm (Ø14.2 in) front bearing and 1,000 rpm. The BB+ has a Ø375 mm (Ø14.8 in) bore, Ø370 mm (Ø14.6 in) through-capacity, a Ø440 mm (Ø17.3 in) front bearing and 750 rpm. Both use the A2-20 nose and 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp).
02
The Hi-TECH 850 has a 24 in chuck on an A2-15 nose with a Ø185 mm (Ø7.3 in) bore and Ø164 mm (Ø6.5 in) bar capacity, and runs to 1,500 rpm. Swing, travels, rapids and turret are the same on both machines; the BB models trade speed for bore.
03
Yes. MC and YMC versions add driven tools with an 11 / 7.5 kW (14.8 / 10.1 hp) motor at up to 2,500 rpm, end mills up to Ø32 mm, ER 50 collets and C-axis indexing in 0.0001° steps. The YMC adds 220 mm (8.7 in) of Y travel at 10 m/min (394 ipm).
