Overview

The Hwacheon HiREX-5000 is the middle size of Hwacheon's long-travel verticals, with 5,000 mm (196.9 in) of X, 520 mm (20.5 in) of Y and 570 mm (22.4 in) of Z over a 550 x 5,500 mm (21.7 x 216.5 in) table. Unlike the HiREX-4000 it comes in a single width, and its table is rated at 5,800 kg (12,787 lb).

A table five and a half metres long and 550 mm wide is made for work that is long rather than wide: extruded profiles, rails, frames, or a row of fixtures loaded in turn along X. Five T-slots, 18 mm wide at 110 mm (4.33 in) pitch, run its length, and the spindle centre sits 660 mm (26.0 in) from the column. Rapids are 30 / 36 / 36 m/min (1,181 / 1,417 / 1,417 ipm), so the long X axis is the slowest of the three, which matters on parts with many short moves spread along the bed.

The spindle choice is between speed and power at the low end. Both versions are direct-drive BT-40 on Ø70 mm (Ø2.8 in) bearings with grease lubrication.
