Overview
The Hwacheon HiREX-6000 is a long-bed vertical machining center with 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X, 620 mm (24.4 in) of Y and 570 mm (22.4 in) of Z over a 650 x 6,500 mm (25.6 x 255.9 in) table rated at 7,300 kg (16,094 lb). The table has six T-slots, 18 mm wide at 110 mm (4.33 in) pitch, and the spindle centre 760 mm (29.9 in) from the column.
At this length the X axis sets the pace. Rapids are 20 m/min (787 ipm) on X and 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) on Y and Z, so a cycle that walks the spindle from one end of the bed to the other costs real time; group operations by position along X where the part allows it. The payoff is a bed that takes a 6,000 mm part in one setup, or several shorter parts and fixtures loaded in sequence.
The Hwacheon HiREX-5000 is the step down, with 5,000 mm (196.9 in) of X, 520 mm (20.5 in) of Y and a 550 x 5,500 mm (21.7 x 216.5 in) table rated at 5,800 kg (12,787 lb). The 6000 is the one for parts that are both long and wide.
Spindles are the same direct-drive BT-40 pair used across the series, on Ø70 mm (Ø2.8 in) grease-lubricated bearings: 10K at 10,000 rpm with 15 / 11 kW (20.1 / 14.8 hp), 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp) optional, cooled by a fan cooler; or 12K at 12,000 rpm with 18.5 / 15 kW (24.8 / 20.1 hp), cooled by an oil cooler. Through-spindle coolant is optional.
