Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hwacheon Hi-TECH 700BB/BB+ that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hwacheon Hi-TECH 700BB/BB+ is the big-bore pipe and tube version of the Hi-TECH 700 frame, swinging Ø900 mm (Ø35.4 in) over the bed and turning up to Ø680 mm (Ø26.8 in). Two spindles are offered. The BB has an A2-15 nose with a Ø185 mm (Ø7.3 in) bore that passes Ø180 mm (Ø7.1 in) stock and runs to 1,300 rpm. The BB+ moves to an A2-20 nose with a Ø300 mm (Ø11.8 in) bore, Ø295 mm (Ø11.6 in) through-capacity and a 1,000 rpm limit. Both use a 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp) motor.
The bearing sizes show how far apart the two are: Ø240 mm (Ø9.4 in) at the front of the BB against Ø360 mm (Ø14.2 in) on the BB+. Workholding is not included in the listed figures. Each version has an optional air chuck, Ø470 mm (Ø18.5 in) for the BB and Ø630 mm (Ø24.8 in) for the BB+, and for tube that is chucked at both ends of the spindle the chuck choice is part of the process design, so settle it before ordering.
Axis figures match the standard Hi-TECH 700: 360 mm (14.2 in) of X, 2,050 mm (80.7 in) of Z, 18 m/min (709 ipm) rapids on both, and a tailstock that travels 1,878 mm (73.9 in) on a Ø150 mm (Ø5.9 in) cylinder with an MT #5 quill. Hwacheon's table gives no maximum turning length for the BB models, so confirm it for long tube. The 12-station turret indexes at 0.4 sec/step.
Weight runs from 15,850 kg (34,943 lb) for the BB to 18,700 kg (41,226 lb) for the BB+, and 16,200 / 18,900 kg (35,715 / 41,667 lb) with driven tools. The MC version adds 2,000 rpm driven tools on a 7.5 / 5.5 kW (10.1 / 7.4 hp) motor, ER 50 collets and a C axis indexing in 0.0001° steps. The control is a FANUC 0i-TF Plus, or a FANUC 31i-B as an option, on a 75 kVA supply.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- BB+ spindle passes Ø295 mm (Ø11.6 in) through a Ø300 mm (Ø11.8 in) bore on an A2-20 nose
- BB version runs to 1,300 rpm with a Ø185 mm (Ø7.3 in) bore and Ø180 mm (Ø7.1 in) through-capacity
- 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp) on both versions, more than the 37 / 30 kW (49.6 / 40.2 hp) of the Hi-TECH 700
- Ø900 mm (Ø35.4 in) swing over the bed and Ø680 mm (Ø26.8 in) turning diameter
- FANUC 31i-B available as an alternative to the FANUC 0i-TF Plus
Limitations
- Spindle speed is limited to 1,000 rpm on the BB+ and 1,300 rpm on the BB
- Chucks are options: Ø470 mm (Ø18.5 in) air chuck for the BB, Ø630 mm (Ø24.8 in) for the BB+
- The table lists no maximum turning length for either version
- Driven tools on the MC version run only to 2,000 rpm

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The spindle. The BB has an A2-15 nose, Ø185 mm (Ø7.3 in) bore, Ø180 mm (Ø7.1 in) bar capacity and 1,300 rpm. The BB+ has an A2-20 nose, Ø300 mm (Ø11.8 in) bore, Ø295 mm (Ø11.6 in) bar capacity and 1,000 rpm. Both have 45 / 37 kW (60.3 / 49.6 hp). The BB+ weighs 18,700 kg (41,226 lb) against 15,850 kg (34,943 lb).
02
The Hi-TECH 700 has a 15 in chuck on an A2-11 nose, a Ø132 mm (Ø5.2 in) bore, Ø116 mm (Ø4.6 in) bar, 37 / 30 kW (49.6 / 40.2 hp) and 1,800 rpm. Travels and turning diameter are the same as on the Hi-TECH 700: Ø680 mm (Ø26.8 in), 360 mm (14.2 in) of X and 2,050 mm (80.7 in) of Z.
03
The table lists only optional air chucks: Ø470 mm (Ø18.5 in) for the 700BB and Ø630 mm (Ø24.8 in) for the 700BB+. Ask for the workholding to be quoted with the machine, particularly if tube will be held at both ends of the spindle.
04
Yes, the MC version. Driven tools run to 2,000 rpm on a 7.5 / 5.5 kW (10.1 / 7.4 hp) motor and take end mills up to Ø32 mm and ER 50 collets, with a C axis indexing in 0.0001° steps. It adds weight: 16,200 kg (35,715 lb) for the BB and 18,900 kg (41,667 lb) for the BB+.
05
The machine measures 5,380 x 2,282 x 2,535 mm (211.8 x 89.8 x 99.8 in), slightly longer than the standard Hi-TECH 700. It needs a 75 kVA supply and the coolant tank holds 300 L (79 US gal).
