Hwacheon VT-1150+

The Hwacheon VT-1150+ is a large chuck-type vertical turning center, turning parts up to Ø1,150 mm (Ø45.3 in) and 950 mm (37.4 in) high on a 40 in chuck, with 32 in and 50 in chucks as options. Swing over the bed is Ø1,350 mm (Ø53.1 in). The spindle is built around low speed and high power: 630 rpm maximum, 55 / 45 kW (73.8 / 60.3 hp), a Ø520 flat spindle nose and a Ø240 mm (Ø9.4 in) front bearing.

Those figures suit large castings and forgings such as housings, flanges and rings that are roughed hard at moderate surface speed. At 630 rpm a Ø900 mm (Ø35.4 in) part, the listed standard turning diameter, still runs at a useful cutting speed, but small bores and features near the centre will be cut well below the ideal speed for carbide. Buyers whose parts mix large and small diameters should look at the VT-950+, which runs to 1,125 rpm on a 24 in chuck.

The turret holds 12 tools and indexes in 0.2 s/step, taking □32 mm shanks and Ø60 mm boring bars. MG versions add a 16-tool magazine and come with either a 12-station Capto C6 turret or a 10-station Capto C8 turret; on MG machines the shank and boring bar holders are optional. X travel is 610 mm (24.0 in) and Z travel 950 mm (37.4 in), with rapids of 24 / 20 m/min (945 / 787 ipm). The MC versions carry driven tools of 7.5 / 5.5 kW (10.1 / 7.4 hp), 11 / 7.5 kW (14.8 / 10.1 hp) as an option, up to 3,000 rpm, with Ø32 mm drilling and M24 and M30 tapping listed, and a 0.0001° C axis.

The machine weighs 24,500 kgf (54,013 lb) as a turret machine and 25,100 kgf (55,335 lb) as an MG / MC. It stands 3,655 mm (143.9 in) high on 2,811 x 4,110 mm (110.7 x 161.8 in), or 3,531 x 4,110 mm (139.0 x 161.8 in) with the magazine, and draws 100 kVA. The coolant tank holds 266 L.
