Huron SX 6 — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Huron SX 6 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Huron or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Huron SX 6 is the larger of Huron's two SX production machines. It is a column-travelling machining centre with travels of 500 x 400 x 400 mm (19.7 x 15.7 x 15.7 in) and two pallets of 650 x 400 mm, each able to carry 300 kg (661 lb).

The jump in pallet capacity is the main reason to choose it over the SX 4, whose pallets take 125 kg. Three hundred kilograms allows a multi-part fixture or a tombstone-style setup, which raises spindle utilisation on parts that need little cutting time each.

Huron dedicates the SX series to fast milling of small and medium mass-production components, with the least possible loading and unloading time. The architecture supports that: base and table are fixed, the column carries all three axes, and the integral changer exchanges pallets automatically. Rapids are 50 m/min.

Spindle and magazine match the smaller model. The electrospindle runs to 12,000 rpm on HSK 50-A with 13.5 / 13.5 kW and 45 / 64 Nm (S1 / S6), and 16 tools are available.

Accuracy is where the SX 6 gives ground. Huron states 0.020 mm positioning and 0.016 mm repeatability, against 0.010 mm and 0.005 mm for the SX 4. The pallet surface is 995 mm above the floor, and the spindle nose is 200 to 600 mm from the pallet centre.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 300 kg (661 lb) per pallet on two 650 x 400 mm pallets
  • 500 x 400 x 400 mm travels at 50 m/min
  • Integral automatic pallet change
  • Fixed table: fixtures and their supply lines do not travel
  • Same 12,000 rpm HSK 50-A electrospindle as the SX 4

Limitations

  • Stated repeatability is 0.016 mm, much coarser than the 0.005 mm of the SX 4
  • Positioning is stated as 0.020 mm
  • 16-tool magazine with a 3 kg tool limit
  • Spindle power of 13.5 kW restricts cutter size

Best For

Multi-part fixtures up to 300 kg per pallet High-volume machining of small castings and forgings In-line production with automatic interfacing Parts whose tolerances fit a 0.020 mm positioning figure

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What can each pallet of the Huron SX 6 carry?

300 kg (661 lb) per pallet, on a pallet of 650 x 400 mm (25.6 x 15.7 in). There are 2 pallets, exchanged by an integral automatic workpiece changer.

02 What are the travels of the SX 6?

500 mm in X, 400 mm in Y and 400 mm in Z. All axes rapid at 50 m/min, and every axis movement is on the tool side of the machine.

03 Why are the SX 6 accuracy figures looser than those of the SX 4?

Huron does not explain it. The table lists 0.020 mm positioning and 0.016 mm repeatability for the SX 6, and 0.010 mm and 0.005 mm for the SX 4. If the tolerance on your part is tight, ask Huron to confirm the SX 6 values.

04 What tooling does the SX 6 use?

HSK 50-A tooling in a 16-position automatic changer. Tools may be 80 mm in diameter, or 100 mm for an oversize tool, up to 250 mm long and 3 kg (7 lb).
