Overview

The Haas EC-1600ZT is the EC-1600 with more Z: 40 in (1,016 mm) of Z travel where the EC-1600 has 32 in (813 mm), on the same 64 × 50 in (1,626 × 1,270 mm) X and Y and the same 64 × 36 in (1,626 × 914 mm), 10,000 lb (4,536 kg) table.

The extra Z does two things. It lets the spindle reach deeper into or across a part, and it makes room to turn bigger work on the rotary: the A-axis block lists a 78 in (1,981 mm) maximum part swing on a 30 in (762 mm) platter. A part that swings 78 in is wider than the 64 in table is long, so check fixture clearances with Haas before designing around that number. The platter is rated for the full 10,000 lb, turns through 360° at 36°/sec, and is listed at ± 30 arc-sec indexing accuracy and 15 arc-sec repeatability. Rotational torque is 2,000 ft-lbf (2,712 N·m) and the brake holds 4,000 ft-lbf (5,423 N·m).

The cutting hardware carries the figures of the shorter machine. A 2-speed gearbox delivers 340 ft-lbf (460 N·m) at 700 rpm and 7,500 rpm from 30 hp (22.4 kW), in CT or BT 50. Thrust is 8,000 lbf (35,586 N) on Y and Z and 4,000 lbf (17,793 N) on X. Feed tops out at 500 ipm (12.7 m/min) and rapids at 600 ipm (15.2 m/min). With that torque and a 20 in (508 mm) tool length limit, long boring bars and large face mills are the natural tools. High-feed aluminium work is not what the figures describe.
