Overview

The Huron MTX 300 is the heavy shaft machine of the MTX multi-tasking series. It comes in three bed lengths, turning 1,250/2,150/3,150 mm between centres with a 520 mm (20.5 in) swing, and its main spindle delivers 785/585 Nm.

That torque, from a 47/35 kW motor spindle on an A2-8 nose with a 304 mm chuck, is three times what the MTX 200 offers. If more is needed, the alternative main spindle is an A2-11 unit with a 115 mm bore, 51/37 kW and 1,902/1,380 Nm at 3,300 rpm. Such figures belong to oilfield tooling, landing-gear parts and large hydraulic components.

Milling is done by a B-axis spindle with HSK 63T tooling, 35/26 kW and 12,000 rpm, swivelling ± 110°. Y travel is ± 150 mm, which Huron highlights for off-centre machining. The main magazine holds 40 tools up to 500 mm long and 15 kg.

The MTX 300 is also equipped for deep-hole work. A separate sub tool magazine holds 6 tools up to 1,000 mm long and 100 kg, which is how long boring bars are loaded automatically. A servo-driven steady rest covers 8 to 101 mm with the lower turret in place and up to 360 mm without it. The tailstock is MT 5 with a 120 mm quill. Weight is 18,000/20,000/22,000 kg.
