Overview
The HNK VTC-20/25 is a vertical turning center with a 2,000 mm (78.7 in) table and 2,500 mm (98.4 in) of swing, and it is where the VTC milling spindle gets its first power increase: A.C 18.5/22 kW (24.8/29.5 hp), cont/30min. The VTC-16/20 below it has A.C 15/18.5 kW (20.1/24.8 hp), and the smaller sizes no more than that.
Speed and taper do not change, at about 2,500 rpm and ISO 50. So the gain is in how hard the spindle can push a face mill or a large drill, which matters as parts get bigger and the features on them grow in proportion. A flange on a ring of this diameter has larger bolt holes than one on a ring half the size.
On the turning side the table carries 12,000 kg (26,455 lb) and runs to about 200 rpm in two steps on an A.C 45/55 kW (60.3/73.8 hp) motor. As a C-axis it turns at 0 to 2 rpm and indexes at 0.001 degree. Turning height is 1,800 mm (70.9 in).
The cross rail moves 250 mm (9.8 in) x 3 steps. Ram head travel is -200 to +1,450 mm (-7.9 to +57.1 in) in X and 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in Z, on a 240 x 240 mm (9.4 x 9.4 in) ram with 40 x 40 mm (1.6 x 1.6 in) shanks for turning tools. Fanuc 31i-B and Siemens 840D are listed.
