Overview
Of the three 2,000 mm (78.7 in) swing turning centers HNK lists, the VTC-16/20 has the most height: 1,660 mm (65.4 in) under a cross rail that moves 250 mm (9.8 in) x 3 steps. It keeps the 10,000 kg (22,046 lb) table load of the fixed-rail VTC-16/20F and the full control choice of Fanuc 31i-B or Siemens 840D.
Think of it as the general-purpose member of the trio. The F model is for flat rings. The R model trades load and milling speed for a Fanuc 0i-T. This one takes the tall valve body, the gearbox housing and the flat ring alike, and mills each of them at up to about 2,500 rpm through an ISO 50 spindle with an A.C 15/18.5 kW (20.1/24.8 hp) motor.
One limit applies to tall parts. Z travel is 900 mm (35.4 in), so with the rail raised for a 1,660 mm part the tool reaches only the upper band. Features low on a tall part call for a rail move, or for long tooling in a ram that is 240 x 240 mm (9.4 x 9.4 in).
The table motor is A.C 37/45 kW (49.6/60.3 hp), cont/30min, for about 250 rpm in two steps. C-axis speed is 0 to 2.5 rpm and indexing 0.001 degree. X travel covers -200 to +1,170 mm (-7.9 to +46.1 in).
