Overview
Take the 1,250 mm (49.2 in) table of the VTC-12/16F, put a stepped cross rail over it, and the result is the HNK VTC-12/16. Turning height goes from 900 mm (35.4 in) on the VTC-12/16F to 1,300 mm (51.2 in), with the rail moving 250 mm (9.8 in) x 3 steps. Swing and cutting diameter stay at 1,600 mm (63.0 in).
Height matters more on a turning center than on a plain lathe. Once the ram carries a milling spindle, the tool holder and cutter take up room above the part, and a drilled hole on the top face needs clearance for the drill as well.
