Overview

The Hermle C 650 is a machining centre with 1,050 mm of X, 900 mm of Y and 600 mm of Z travel that Hermle builds around two table variants: a swivelling rotary table of Ø 900 x 750 mm for 5-axis work, or a rigid clamping table of 1,250 x 982 mm. The choice of table sets the load limit. The swivelling rotary table is rated for 1,500 kg and the rigid clamping table for 3,000 kg.

With the swivelling rotary table the A-axis has a range of +/- 115° and the C-axis turns at 25 rpm. The largest workpiece is Ø 900 mm and 600 mm high, inside a collision circle of Ø 1,100 mm with the A-axis in the 0° position, and the maximum vertical table clearance is 775 mm. A C-axis at 25 rpm positions and contours; it is not a turning axis.

Three spindles are listed. The SK 40 spindle runs to 15,000 rpm, and the HSK A 63 spindles to 16,000 rpm or 20,000 rpm. The 15,000 and 16,000 rpm versions are rated 20 kW and 173 Nm, the 20,000 rpm version 42 kW and 148 Nm, all at 20% c.d.f. The fastest spindle therefore has about twice the power of the other two with somewhat less torque, which makes it the one to pick for high feed rates with small and medium cutters. With 173 Nm as the highest torque on offer, large roughing cutters in steel need conservative settings on any of the three.
