How much does the Hartford HMC-8 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford HMC-8 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Hartford HMC-8 is an 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in) pallet horizontal machining center with a #50 spindle. X travel is 1,000 mm (39.4 in), Y is 850 mm (33.5 in) and Z is 950 mm (37.4 in).
From this size up the HMC line offers two spindles. The gear head runs at 6,000 rpm. The alternative is a built-in motor spindle at 10,000 rpm, which Hartford says can run for long periods at high speed, has water and dust protection for its bearings and is kept thermally stable by a cooler system. The motor row is the same for the whole line: 15 / 18.5 kW, with 18.5 / 22 kW and 22 / 26 kW as options (Cont. / 30 min).
The HMC-8 has the widest magazine choice among the HMC models. Its ATC row reads A: 30 / 40 / 60 / 90, starting at a 30-tool magazine that the HMC-800 does not list. That lets a shop with a small tool list take the smaller, simpler magazine.
One figure is absent here. Hartford's table for the HMC-8 has no correctly labelled pallet load row, so this page gives none; the sibling HMC-800 lists 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Structurally the machine follows the series: a one-piece column on a T-shape base, 580mm between the linear guideways, and a servo-driven pallet changer fixed to the base with a 12 sec switching speed.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Choice of 6,000 rpm gear spindle or 10,000 rpm built-in spindle, both #50
- Z travel of 950 mm (37.4 in) on an 800 mm pallet machine
- Magazine choices of 30, 40, 60 or 90 tools
- Built-in spindle with cooler system and sealed bearings, per Hartford
- Servo-driven pallet change in 12 sec
Limitations
- The maker's table does not state the pallet load for this model under a correct label
- Motor options end at 22 / 26 kW (Cont. / 30 min), the same as on the smaller HMC-6
- No spindle faster than 10,000 rpm
- B-axis indexing data and rapid traverse rates are not published

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X is 1,000 mm (39.4 in), Y is 850 mm (33.5 in) and Z is 950 mm (37.4 in). The pallet measures 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in).
02
Hartford's page does not give it under a correctly labelled row, so no figure is stated here. The HMC-800, which has the same pallet and travels, lists 1,500 kg (3,307 lb); ask Hartford to confirm the rating for the HMC-8.
03
A gear-head spindle at 6,000 rpm and a built-in spindle at 10,000 rpm, both #50 with BBT50 shanks (CAT50 and DIN69871 as alternatives). The motor is 15 / 18.5 kW, optionally 18.5 / 22 kW or 22 / 26 kW.
04
The ATC row reads A: 30 / 40 / 60 / 90 pcs, so the magazine can be ordered with 30, 40, 60 or 90 tools. Tool length, diameter and weight limits are not on the product page.
