How much does the Hartford HMC-600 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford HMC-600 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Hartford lists the HMC-600 alongside the HMC-6 with the same figures: a horizontal machining center with a 630 x 630 mm (24.8 x 24.8 in) pallet, a #50 spindle and travels of 750 mm (29.5 in), 700 mm (27.6 in) and 650 mm (25.6 in) in X, Y and Z.
What the page for this model adds is a heading of its own for the spindle head: a one-piece design of spindle housing and head, with two-step transmission. Casting the housing and head as one piece puts more support behind the spindle, and the two gear steps let a 15 / 18.5 kW motor deliver its torque low in the speed range. The spindle tops out at 6,000 rpm. Larger motors of 18.5 / 22 kW and 22 / 26 kW are options (Cont. / 30 min).
A horizontal with these proportions is bought for cubic parts: gearbox housings, pump bodies, valve blocks. Y travel of 700 mm (27.6 in) over a 630 mm pallet gives height for tombstone fixtures, and the pallet takes 600 kg (1,323 lb) including the fixture.
The frame has a one-piece column that Hartford says is 25% wider for 15% more rigidity, on a T-shape base with V-ribs. The pallet changer sits on the base and switches in 12 sec. BBT50 tools, or CAT50 or DIN69871, are stored in a magazine of 40, 60 or 90.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- One-piece spindle housing and head with a two-step gear transmission
- Y travel of 700 mm (27.6 in) over a 630 x 630 mm (24.8 x 24.8 in) pallet
- One-piece column, 25% wider for 15% more rigidity according to Hartford
- 40, 60 or 90 tool magazine with BBT50 dual-contact shanks
- Base-mounted pallet changer with a 12 sec switching speed
Limitations
- Maximum spindle speed is 6,000 rpm
- 600 kg (1,323 lb) pallet load, fixtures included
- Z travel of 650 mm (25.6 in) limits long boring bars across a full pallet
- Hartford does not state how the HMC-600 differs from the HMC-6

Pallet 630 x 630 mm (24.8 x 24.8 in) for 600 kg (1,323 lb); travels of 750 mm (29.5 in), 700 mm (27.6 in) and 650 mm (25.6 in); a #50 gear spindle at 6,000 rpm; a 15 / 18.5 kW motor with 18.5 / 22 kW and 22 / 26 kW options; and a 40, 60 or 90 tool magazine.

For torque. Hartford describes an ISO 50 gear type spindle with two-step transmission that gives high torque output at low speed, suitable for heavy-duty cutting, and spur gears of large modulus for rigidity and low abrasion.
03
Not in the published table, which lists only the 6,000 rpm gear head. The next size up, the HMC-800, adds a 10,000 rpm built-in spindle on an 800 x 800 mm (31.5 x 31.5 in) pallet.

The page states a 5-year warranty on the guideways and a 2-year warranty without operation hours limit for the oil-air lubrication spindle. The terms behind those headlines are not given on the page.
