Overview

The Matsuura H.Plus-300 is a compact 300mm-class horizontal machining center designed for high-speed production of small-to-medium prismatic parts. As the smallest machine in the H.Plus HMC family, the 300 fills a niche below the H.Plus-405 for shops running smaller workpieces that benefit from horizontal spindle orientation but do not need the larger pallet and work envelope. The machine is particularly popular for automotive, electronics, and hydraulic component production where small parts are run in high volumes with pallet automation.

Axis travel measures 450 x 500 x 450 mm (17.7 x 19.7 x 17.7 in) on X/Y/Z. The pallet size is 300 x 300 mm (11.8 x 11.8 in) with a standard 2-pallet changer. The spindle runs a BT40 taper at 12,000 RPM standard with 11/15 kW (15/20 hp) of power. A 15,000 RPM high-speed option is available for aluminum work. Rapid traverse runs at 50 m/min on all linear axes. The B-axis indexes in 1-degree increments through a full 360 degrees for multi-sided access.

The H.Plus-300 uses box-way construction on all axes for rigidity and vibration damping during heavy cuts. The standard tool magazine holds 40 tools, expandable to 60 or 90 positions. Tool-to-tool change time is 1.0 seconds, and pallet change completes in 7 seconds. Through-spindle coolant runs at 20 bar standard (70 bar optional). Table load capacity is 200 kg (441 lb).

The machine weighs approximately 6,500 kg (14,330 lb) with a compact footprint of roughly 2,800 x 2,600 mm. The G-Tech 31i control provides the same touchscreen interface found across the Matsuura lineup. Matsuura offers the Linear Pallet Pool (LPP) option for expanding to multi-pallet cell configurations. The H.Plus-300 competes with machines like the Mazak HCN-4000 (smaller configs), Okuma MB-4000H, and DMG Mori NHX 4000 in the compact HMC segment.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Most compact HMC in the Matsuura lineup at 2.8 x 2.6 m, fitting into shops where larger horizontals will not go
  • Box-way construction on all axes provides excellent rigidity and vibration damping for heavy interrupted cuts
  • 7-second pallet change and 1.0-second tool change minimize non-cutting time in high-volume production
  • Scalable from 2-pallet to multi-pallet LPP cell, growing with production demands without replacing the machine
  • 300 mm pallet size is well-suited for small tombstone fixtures running multiple parts per cycle
  • Through-spindle coolant at 20 bar standard (70 bar optional) handles demanding drilling and tapping operations

Limitations

  • 300 mm pallet size limits workpiece dimensions significantly compared to the H.Plus-405 (400 mm pallet)
  • BT40 spindle limits heavy roughing capability in steel compared to BT50-equipped competitors
  • 200 kg table load is adequate for small parts but constrains fixture options for heavier setups
  • Matsuura HMC market presence in North America is smaller than their 5-axis business, affecting parts and service availability

Best For

Automotive Tier 1-2 suppliers running high-volume small aluminum and cast iron components in production cells Hydraulic valve and manifold manufacturers machining small blocks requiring multi-sided horizontal access Electronics and connector manufacturers producing small precision housings at high volumes with pallet automation Shops with limited floor space that need horizontal machining capability in the smallest possible footprint Production cells requiring a compact 2-pallet HMC with a growth path to multi-pallet LPP configuration

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does a Matsuura H.Plus-300 cost?

New H.Plus-300 pricing typically ranges from $225,000 to $350,000 for a standard 2-pallet configuration. Adding the Linear Pallet Pool for multi-pallet automation can push the total cell cost past $500,000. This is one of the most affordable new HMCs available from a tier-one Japanese manufacturer.

02 How does the H.Plus-300 compare to the H.Plus-405?

The H.Plus-405 offers a larger 400 mm pallet, more axis travel (560 x 640 x 560 mm vs 450 x 500 x 450 mm), higher spindle power (22 kW vs 15 kW), and 400 kg table load (vs 200 kg). The H.Plus-300 is smaller, lighter, cheaper, and better suited for shops running smaller parts that do not need the 405 envelope.

03 Can the H.Plus-300 run tombstone fixtures?

Yes. The 300 x 300 mm pallet accepts small tombstone fixtures for multi-part loading. A typical setup might run 4-8 small parts per tombstone face across 4 faces, processing 16-32 parts per cycle with the B-axis indexing between faces. Combined with the 2-pallet changer, this delivers high throughput for small-part production.

04 Is the H.Plus-300 suitable for steel cutting?

Yes, with the box-way construction providing good rigidity for interrupted cuts in steel. The BT40 spindle with 15 kW is adequate for semi-finishing and moderate roughing in steel. For aggressive steel roughing on larger parts, the H.Plus-405 with its higher power rating would be more appropriate.
