Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Hartford HMC-1000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Up to 90 tools on a one-metre pallet machine: the Hartford HMC-1000 is a 50-taper horizontal machining center whose magazine is listed as 40, 60 or 90 tools. The pallet is 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.4 x 39.4 in) and carries 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).
Tool count is what separates it from the HMC-10, which stops at 60. On a large horizontal the tool list grows quickly. Each bore may need a roughing bar, a finishing bar and a chamfer tool, long and short versions of the same drill are kept for reach, and sister tools are added for unattended running. A 90-tool magazine keeps all of that on the machine across several part numbers.
The envelope is 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in X, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in Y and 1,150 mm (45.3 in) in Z. Two #50 spindles are offered. The gear head is listed at 6,000 rpm, and the built-in spindle at 10,000 rpm with a cooler system to control its temperature. The spindle drive motor is 15 / 18.5 kW, with 18.5 / 22 kW and 22 / 26 kW as options (Cont. / 30 min).
Hartford builds the HMC column in one piece and sets it on a T-shape base stiffened with V-ribs. The distance between the linear guideways is 580mm. Spindle shaft cooling is claimed to reduce spindle thermal displacement by 70%.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The ATC row reads A: 40 / 60 / 90 pcs, so the magazine is available with 40, 60 or 90 tools. The shank is BBT50, with CAT50 and DIN69871 as alternatives.
02
1,300 mm (51.2 in) in X, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in Y and 1,150 mm (45.3 in) in Z over a 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.4 x 39.4 in) pallet. The average pallet load is 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).
03
The HMC-10 Plus has the same pallet size but longer travels, 1,700 mm (66.9 in) by 1,400 mm (55.1 in) by 1,525 mm (60.0 in), and a 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) load. The HMC-1000 is the smaller machine for parts within 2,000 kg (4,409 lb).
04
6,000 rpm with the gear head and 10,000 rpm with the built-in type spindle, both on a #50 nose. Hartford says the built-in spindle is capable of long continuous running at high speed.
