Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Hartford HMC-10 that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Hartford or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Hartford HMC-10 is a horizontal machining center with a 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.4 x 39.4 in) pallet rated for 2,000 kg (4,409 lb). Travels are 1,300 mm (51.2 in) in X, 1,000 mm (39.4 in) in Y and 1,150 mm (45.3 in) in Z, and the spindle nose is #50.

A one-metre pallet moves the work into a different class of part: machine tool castings, large gear housings, construction equipment components. Z travel of 1,150 mm (45.3 in) lets a boring bar pass through a part that spans the whole pallet, and Y travel equal to the pallet width gives a square working window.

Hartford offers a gear-head spindle at 6,000 rpm and a built-in spindle at 10,000 rpm. The built-in unit runs on special bearings that the maker says resist axial and radial loads well, with sealed bearing protection against water and dust. Motors are 15 / 18.5 kW, optionally 18.5 / 22 kW or 22 / 26 kW (Cont. / 30 min).

The magazine for the HMC-10 is listed as 30, 40 or 60 tools. That is smaller than the 40 / 60 / 90 of the otherwise identical HMC-1000, and it is the only difference between the two published tables. The pallet changer is servo-driven, mounted on the base, and switches in 12 sec.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.4 x 39.4 in) pallet with a 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) load
  • 1,150 mm (45.3 in) of Z travel for through-boring of large parts
  • Gear spindle at 6,000 rpm or built-in spindle at 10,000 rpm
  • Y travel of 1,000 mm (39.4 in) matches the pallet width
  • Servo-driven, base-mounted pallet changer with a 12 sec switching speed

Limitations

  • Magazine is 30, 40 or 60 tools; the 90-tool version is listed for the HMC-1000
  • The largest motor, 22 / 26 kW (Cont. / 30 min), is the same as on the 630 mm pallet HMC-6
  • 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) pallet load is well below the 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) of the HMC-10 Plus
  • No rapid traverse, B-axis or maximum swing data on the product page
06

Best For

Large gearbox housings and machine castings Through-boring across a one-metre pallet Heavy steel weldments up to 2,000 kg (4,409 lb) Low-mix production that needs 60 tools or fewer

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What size is the Hartford HMC-10 pallet?

1,000 x 1,000 mm (39.4 x 39.4 in), with a maximum average load of 2,000 kg (4,409 lb). Fixtures and tombstones count toward that figure.

02 What are the axis travels of the HMC-10?

X travel is 1,300 mm (51.2 in), Y travel is 1,000 mm (39.4 in) and Z travel is 1,150 mm (45.3 in). The spindle is #50 with BBT50 shanks; CAT50 and DIN69871 are listed as alternatives.

03 How does the HMC-10 differ from the HMC-1000?

In the published tables only by the tool magazine. The HMC-10 lists 30 / 40 / 60 tools and the HMC-1000 lists 40 / 60 / 90. Pallet, load, travels, spindles and motor options are the same.

04 What spindle options does the HMC-10 have?

A 6,000 rpm gear-head spindle and a 10,000 rpm built-in spindle. The motor is 15 / 18.5 kW as listed, with 18.5 / 22 kW and 22 / 26 kW as options, all continuous / 30 min ratings.
