Overview
The Haas ST-15L is the long-bed version of the ST-15, extending the Z-axis from 406 mm (16 in) to 610 mm (24 in) while keeping the ST-15's big-bore-in-a-small-package formula intact. The 63.5 mm (2.5 in) bar capacity, 210 mm (8.3 in) chuck, and A2-6 spindle nose are all carried over from the standard model.
The spindle delivers 14.9 kW (20 hp) and 203 Nm (150 ft-lb) of torque at 500 RPM, topping out at 4,000 RPM. The 88.9 mm (3.5 in) spindle bore handles through-spindle work within the 2.5-inch bar range. Max cutting envelope grows to 305 mm (12 in) diameter by 508 mm (20 in) length — gaining 205 mm of turning length over the standard ST-15.
Axis travels are 200 mm (7.9 in) in X and 610 mm (24 in) in Z with rapid traverse at 30.5 m/min (1,200 ipm) on both axes. The 12-station bolt-on turret and 114 L (30 gal) coolant tank match the standard ST-15. The NGC control provides full conversational and G-code programming.
The ST-15L fills a specific niche: shops running 2.5-inch bar stock on longer parts that exceed the standard ST-15's 16-inch Z-travel but don't need the ST-20's larger cutting diameter. Fittings manufacturers, connector producers, and job shops machining longer hydraulic components in mid-size bar stock are the primary audience.
At roughly $53,000-$83,000 configured, the ST-15L provides 2.5-inch bore capacity and 20 hp of spindle power on a long bed at a price point that keeps the barrier to entry low. The long-bed premium over the standard ST-15 is modest, making it an easy justification for shops that occasionally run parts longer than 12 inches.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 610 mm (24 in) Z-axis travel handles longer fittings and components that exceed the standard ST-15's 406 mm bed
- 2.5-inch bar capacity covers the most common production bar stock sizes in the smallest long-bed Haas with this bore
- 20 hp spindle with 150 ft-lb torque provides a meaningful step up from the ST-10L for steel and stainless work
- A2-6 spindle nose and 3.5-inch bore match the ST-20 platform, accepting the same workholding systems
- 30.5 m/min rapids on both axes keep non-cutting time competitive with the extended bed
- At ~$53K base, affordable long-bed turning with production-grade 2.5-inch bore capability
Limitations
- 4,000 RPM max spindle speed is lower than the ST-10L's 6,000 RPM, limiting surface speeds on small-diameter aluminum
- Same 12-inch max cutting diameter as the ST-10L — the ST-15L adds bore capacity, not cutting reach
- No Y-axis option on the base ST-15L — off-center features require the ST-15LY variant
- 30-gallon coolant tank is small for sustained production runs with through-tool coolant

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Base price starts around $53,000. Adding tailstock, chip conveyor, parts catcher, and bar feeder interface pushes the configured price to $68,000-$83,000. The long-bed premium over the standard ST-15 is approximately $3,000-$5,000.
02
The ST-15L extends the Z-axis from 406 mm (16 in) to 610 mm (24 in), increasing max cutting length from 305 mm to 508 mm (20 in). The spindle, chuck, bar capacity, and power specs are identical. Choose the L variant when your parts regularly exceed the standard bed length.
03
Both offer 2.5-inch bar capacity and 20 hp. The ST-20L has a larger cutting envelope at 330 x 813 mm versus the ST-15L's 305 x 508 mm, but costs more and takes up more floor space. If your parts fit within 12 x 20 inches, the ST-15L saves money. If you need larger diameter or longer reach, the ST-20L is the right choice.
04
Yes. The 63.5 mm (2.5 in) bar capacity accepts standard bar feeders including the Haas Servo Bar 300 and third-party options. The longer bed is particularly useful for bar feeder operation with longer cutoff lengths, reducing bar changes per shift.
