Overview

The Haas EC-500 Horizontal Machining Center is a twin-pallet 40-taper horizontal with 19.69 in (500 mm) pallets and 32 × 25 × 28 in (813 × 635 × 711 mm) of travel. Its spindle, rapid and tool capacity figures match the EC-400; what it adds is a longer X and Z and room to swing a 29.5 in (749 mm) part.

The clearance figures deserve a careful read. Maximum part diameter is 29.5 in (749 mm) and maximum part height is 36.5 in (927 mm), yet Y travel is 25 in (635 mm). A fixture can be taller than the spindle can reach, so plan tombstones around the Y stroke, not around the height limit. Pallet load is 880 lb (400 kg), the same as the EC-400 on its 15.75 in (400 mm) pallet. A bigger pallet with an unchanged weight limit means the extra room is for larger or more numerous light parts, not for heavier ones.

Speed is the EC-500's argument against the EC-500/50, which shares these travels and pallets.
