The base EC-1600 uses a single pallet without automatic pallet changing. The EC-1600-4AX variant adds dual-pallet capability with automatic pallet changing for pendulum machining. If continuous production with pallet changes is important, specify the 4AX version.

The EC-1600's side-mount tool changer is fixed at 30+1 positions. Unlike some competitors that offer expandable tool magazines, the Haas design doesn't support additional tool capacity. For programs requiring more than 30 tools, manual tool changes during pallet loads are the workaround.
