Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Glebar CAM.2 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Glebar CAM.2 is a micro grinder for small, complex parts ground from wire: medical guidewires, needle points, radiuses and non-linear shapes. Incoming stock runs from 0.005 in (0.13 mm) to 0.250 in (6.35 mm) in diameter, and the minimum grind diameter is 0.0005 in (0.013 mm). The part is carried by a patented dual-carriage linear motor feed system, so its position, feed speed and rotation are all commanded.
That is why the resolution figures come as a pair. Diameter resolution is 0.1 µm (0.000004 in) and so is length resolution, and a laser interferometer is part of the positioning system. The control is a 15 in touchscreen HMI with G-code underneath. It shows part and wheel shape in 3D, keeps an unlimited recipe library, collects production data in real time and offers an OPC or OLE server connection to SCADA and ERP systems.
The 12 in (305 mm) work wheel has variable speed up to 3,600 rpm, which Glebar equates to 11,000 SFPM (56 m/s), and it is dressed by CNC. A secondary spindle assembly can carry a cutoff wheel for slots, angular slots and sharp internal corners. In-line grit blasting can be added for marker bands. A spool feeder that feeds Nitinol and SLT wire and cuts it to length, the P5K gauging system and a wheel balancing system are all listed as available.
The machine stands on a 6 in (152 mm) thick granite bed, weighs 3,400 lb (1,542 kg) and measures 58 x 45 x 86 in (148 x 115 x 219 cm) before the feeder is counted. Feeders come in 6 ft, 12.5 ft and 16 ft lengths (180 cm, 380 cm, 500 cm). It runs on 380-400 VAC or 460-480 VAC, 3PH, 30 A, 50/60 Hz and uses 4 CFM of air at 80 PSI.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Diameter and length resolution are both 0.1 µm (0.000004 in), with a laser interferometer in the positioning system
- Minimum grind diameter of 0.0005 in (0.013 mm) from stock as large as 0.250 in (6.35 mm)
- CNC work wheel dressing on a 12 in (305 mm) wheel with variable speed up to 3,600 rpm
- 15 in touchscreen HMI over G-code control, with 3D visualization of part and wheel shape
- Secondary spindle assembly can grind slots, angular slots and sharp internal corners
- Accepts 380-400 VAC or 460-480 VAC at 50/60 Hz, with a voltage conversion kit for other supplies
Limitations
- Incoming stock is limited to 0.250 in (6.35 mm) in diameter
- The spool feeder, the P5K gauging system, the wheel balancing system and CE certification are listed as available, not standard
- A 16 ft (500 cm) feeder is far longer than the 58 x 45 x 86 in (148 x 115 x 219 cm) machine it attaches to
- No work wheel motor power is given in Glebar's table, so removal rates have to be discussed against sample parts

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Small, complex precision parts, mostly medical: guidewires, radiuses, needle points and non-linear shapes. Incoming stock diameter is 0.005 in (0.13 mm) minimum and 0.250 in (6.35 mm) maximum, and the minimum grind diameter is 0.0005 in (0.013 mm).
02
The GT-9AC is a centerless guidewire grinder with a 9 in (230 mm) work wheel, limited to wire of 0.045 in (1.14 mm) diameter. The CAM.2 takes stock up to 0.250 in (6.35 mm), uses a 12 in (305 mm) wheel dressed by CNC, and controls part position and rotation with a dual-carriage linear motor feed system, which is what allows non-linear shapes and needle points.
03
A 15 in touchscreen HMI with underlying G-code control. Glebar lists 3D visualization of part and wheel shape, an unlimited part and recipe library, fully customizable software, real-time collection of production data and machine status, and an OPC or OLE server connection to SCADA or other ERP and data management systems.
04
The 12 in (305 mm) work wheel has variable speed up to 3,600 rpm. Glebar gives the corresponding surface speed as 11,000 SFPM (56 m/s). Part rotation speed is variable as well.
05
380-400 VAC or 460-480 VAC, 3PH, 30 A, 50/60 Hz, and a voltage conversion kit is available for other voltages. Air consumption is 4 CFM at 80 PSI. The machine weighs 3,400 lb (1,542 kg).
