Overview

The Palmary FCL-12 is the small machine of the FCL line of CNC centerless grinders, the series Palmary builds with alloy bearing spindles. Its standard grinding range is Ø1 to Ø40 mm, and a special arrangement extends it to Ø30 to Ø60 mm.

The wheels set the scale. The grinding wheel is Ø305 mm by 150 mm wide on a 120 mm bore, driven by a 7.5 HP (5 kW) motor at 33 m/s (6,496 ft/min). The regulating wheel is Ø205 mm by 150 mm and is turned by a 1.5 kW (2.0 hp) servo motor at 10 to 300 rpm. A servo on the regulating wheel means the work speed is set from the control and repeats from batch to batch.

With 150 mm of wheel width, through-feed stock removal per pass is modest and infeed parts must be shorter than that. The regulating wheel tilts from +5° to -3° for through-feed and swivels ±5°. Palmary supplies both a thrufeed and an infeed work rest with carbide blades, so either method can be run from delivery.

A FANUC CNC controller is standard. The structure is Meehanite cast iron with hardened and ground slideways, and a pressure switch lets the spindles start only once oil has reached the bearings.
