Overview
The Campbell Grinder 930E500 is a 5-axis CNC vertical creep feed grinder with a 500 mm (19.7 in) table and 500 mm (19.7 in) of part height. Campbell describes the 930 as well suited to turbine engine vanes, buckets, shrouds, hangers and panels.
Those parts explain the machine. A vane segment has ground surfaces on its inner and outer platforms, at angles to each other and to any fixture face. With the part on the rotary C axis and the wheel on the swivelling B axis, both can be reached from one clamping, and Campbell lists grinding the ID and OD of turbine vane segments in one setup as a standard capability. Grinding, drilling and milling in one setup is listed as well.
The work is clamped hydraulically through the table. The spindle is listed at up to 60 HP (44.7 kW), and the machine accepts any abrasive, plated or vitrified CBN included, so the wheel can be chosen for the alloy and the form.
Accuracy is 5 microns (0.0002 in) on X, Y and Z and 10 arc seconds on B and C, under a Fanuc 31i control with up to 5 axis simultaneous contouring. In the series the 930E500 sits between the 930E250, with a 250 mm (9.8 in) table, and the 930E750, with 750 mm (29.5 in).
