How much does the Ganesh GEN TURN 52-BY2 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Ganesh GEN TURN 52-BY2 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The GEN TURN 52-BY2 is a 9-axis gang-style mill-turn lathe for 2.008 in (51 mm) bar. Its defining feature is a 12-tool B axis: a block of driven tools that swivels so the machine can, in the maker's words, machine at any angle. Around it are two opposed 6,000 rpm integral-motor spindles, each 15 HP (11 kW) peak and 10 HP (7.5 kW) on the 30 min rating, and a Y axis for each.
There is no turret. Tools are arranged in two groups that slide past the part, which is how the machine reaches 36 tool positions with 18 of them driven. The main group carries 6 axial and 6 radial driven and Any-Angle tools on a 5 HP (3.5 kW) motor, with OD holders of 20 mm and ID bores of 25 mm. The second group has 3 axial and 3 radial driven tools on 2.7 HP (2.0 kW), plus its own OD holders and ID bores. All driven spindles take ER-20 collets and top out at 2,500 rpm.
That driven-tool speed is the number to weigh. 2,500 rpm suits drilling, tapping and milling with larger cutters in steel. Small end mills and small drills in aluminium or brass will run well below their best speed, and buyers with that kind of work should look at the 6,000 rpm live tools of the GEN TURN 52CS Y2.
Travels are generous for a bar machine: X1 10.63 in (270 mm), Y1 18.11 in (460 mm), Z1 9.84 in (250 mm), and X2 18.89 in (480 mm), Y2 18.11 in (460 mm), Z2 10.63 in (270 mm), all at 1,181 ipm (30 m/min). The machine weighs 12,345 lb (5,600 kg), needs 110 amps and 42 kVA at 220 VAC, and uses 20 cfm of air at 85 psi, which is a large air demand. Coolant comes from an 80 gallon tank with 4 pumps.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 12-tool B axis machines features at any angle, on front and back work
- 36 tool positions, 18 of them driven, without a turret
- Twin opposed 6,000 rpm integral-motor spindles, 15 HP (11 kW) peak each
- Y axes of 18.11 in (460 mm) on both the main and the sub-spindle side
- 1,181 ipm (30 m/min) rapids on all six linear axes
Limitations
- Driven tools are limited to 2,500 rpm
- The second tooling group's driven tools have 2.7 HP (2.0 kW), about half the main group's 5 HP (3.5 kW)
- Large services: 110 amps, 42 kVA and 20 cfm of air at 85 psi
- Z1 travel is 9.84 in (250 mm), so part length is limited

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A swivelling block of driven tools. Expand Machinery describes a 12-tool B axis that lets the machine cut at any angle, and says the B axis and dual Y axes serve both front and back work. The table lists 6 axial and 6 radial driven and Any-Angle tools for the main spindle, driven by a 5 HP (3.5 kW) motor.
02
36 tool positions, 18 of them driven. The table shows 12 driven tools, 5 OD turning holders of 20 mm and 5 ID bores of 25 mm in the main group, then 3 axial and 3 radial driven tools, 4 OD holders and 4 ID bores in a second group. Driven tools use ER-20 collets for shanks up to 1/2 in.
03
Main and sub-spindle are the same: integral-motor spindles at 6,000 rpm, 15 HP (11 kW) peak and 10 HP (7.5 kW) on the 30 min rating, with 2.008 in (51 mm) bar capacity and Traub TRB-52 collets. The main spindle nose is A2-5 and it runs in 5 ball bearings of 90 mm.
04
Maximum driven tool spindle speed is 2,500 rpm for both tooling groups. That is adequate for drilling, tapping and general milling, but it is low for very small cutters, so check the smallest tool diameters in your parts against it.
05
110 x 85 x 82 in (W x D x H) plus 38 in for the chip conveyor, at 12,345 lb (5,600 kg). It needs 220 VAC ±5%, 3-phase at 110 amps and 42 kVA, and 20 cfm of air at 85 psi.
