Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Fryer HR-120 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Long-bed horizontal milling is the job of the Fryer HR-120. It has 120 in (3,048 mm) of X travel over a 40 x 126 in (1,016 x 3,200 mm) table, 55 in (1,397 mm) of Y and 40 in (1,016 mm) of Z, with a fixed CAT 50 or BT-50 spindle. The machine weighs 42,000 lb (19,051 kg).
Compared with the HR-70 the column and spindle are the same and the bed is new. The table gains 7 T-slots, the ballscrews are 3.14 in (80 mm) against 2.18 in (55 mm) on the HR-70, and spindle center to table top extends to 65 in (1,651 mm). Table load stays at 10,000 lb (4,536 kg) and rapids ease to 600 ipm (15.2 m/min).
What can a horizontal spindle do along a 120 in bed that a vertical cannot? It can face and bore the ends and sides of long structural parts without standing them on end, and it can work on the edge of a plate that is clamped flat. Fryer offers a spindle arbor attachment for the 50 taper, a removable arbor support for arbors up to 25" long, which it calls ideal for slotting cutters. A 40" built-in 4th axis rotary table is listed for the HR and HB-120/160.
The table bed matches Fryer's VB-120 vertical in size, and a shop could reasonably pair the two. Z travel can be extended to 50 in (1,270 mm). Power is 80 A at 480 VAC, the coolant tank holds 100 gal (379 L), and dual chip auger or conveyor systems for 120" - 160" of X travel are options.
