Overview

The Fidia VSE 1066 is a 3-axis C-frame vertical machining centre for high-speed die and mould work, with travels of 1,020 mm (40.1 in) in X, 610 mm (24 in) in Y and 610 mm (24 in) in Z. The table measures 1,200 x 610 mm (47.2 x 24 in) and takes 850 kg (1,873.9 lbs).

The standard spindle is unusual for a machine of this size: a direct-coupled ISO 40 unit at 15,000 rpm with 20/53 kW and 96/250 Nm (S1/S6 40%). The intent is one spindle that can rough and finish. Three built-in electrospindles are options, at 18,000, 24,000 and 30,000 rpm, the fastest being the one Fidia offers for graphite and resin milling.

The axes feed at 30/30/30 m/min on roller guideways, driven by C3 class ballscrews directly coupled to the servo motors. Accuracy is stated to VDI 3441 as P 0.012 mm positioning and PS 0.008 mm repeatability, with values measured in an air conditioned room. A 24-position swing arm changer is standard, at 3/10 sec tool to tool/chip to chip.

Z can be ordered with 810 mm (31.8 in) of travel instead of 610 mm (24 in), useful with long tools in deep cavities. The machine weighs 7,000 kg (15,432.3 lbs) and occupies about 4,200 x 2,500 x 3,000 mm (165.3 x 98.4 x 118.1 in). The VSE 1468 is the larger model, with 1,350 mm (53.1 in) of X and a 1,200 kg (2,645.5 lbs) table load.
