Overview

With the V650G Plus, Excetek's G Plus wire EDM series reaches its full taper capability and its widest choice of Z travel. The machine has 650 mm (25.6 in) of X and 400 mm (15.7 in) of Y, and the Z row lists three strokes: 350 / 410 / 500 mm (13.8 / 16.1 / 19.7 in), with a submerged height of 310 mm (12.2 in).

Three Z figures on one model need reading with care. The table does not say which stroke is the base machine, and it gives one maximum workpiece size, 1,000 x 700 x 345 mm (39.4 x 27.6 x 13.6 in), and one submerged height for all of them. Anyone buying this machine for tall work should have the supplier confirm part height and water level for the column they are quoting.

U and V travel 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in), against 80 x 80 mm on the V400G Plus, and the taper row reads ±30° over 100 mm (3.9 in) with the wide diamond guide and nozzle. That makes this the smallest G Plus machine for extrusion dies, tapered punches and other work where the angle drives the choice.

Workpiece weight is 800 kg (1,764 lb). The machine itself weighs 4,400 kg (9,700 lb) and occupies 2,520 x 2,720 x 2,290 mm (99.2 x 107.1 x 90.2 in), with an 850 L water tank. A Power Slide Door appears among the options marked for the V650G and V850G only; the smaller two G Plus models do not get it. Automatic wire threading is likewise an option, and where fitted Excetek states that a water jet function threads workpieces up to 500 mm.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Z travel offered as 350 / 410 / 500 mm (13.8 / 16.1 / 19.7 in)
  • ±30° taper over 100 mm (3.9 in) with 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in) of U/V travel
  • 1,000 x 700 x 345 mm (39.4 x 27.6 x 13.6 in) workpiece capacity at 800 kg (1,764 lb)
  • Power Slide Door available as an option, which the V400G Plus and V500G Plus pages rule out
  • Water cooled lower arm to limit thermal expansion from heat build-up

Limitations

  • Only one submerged height, 310 mm (12.2 in), is given for all three Z strokes
  • The table does not state which of the three Z travels is the standard build
  • AWT, XY axis linear scales and the Super Finish Circuit are options
  • 800 kg (1,764 lb) workpiece limit against 1,100 kg (2,425 lb) on the V850G Plus

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Which Z travels are available on the V650G Plus?

The Z axis row lists 350 / 410 / 500 mm (13.8 / 16.1 / 19.7 in) and a submerged height of 310 mm (12.2 in). The page does not mark any of the three as an option or as standard, so confirm the stroke, the part height and the water level for the machine being quoted.

02 How does the V650G Plus differ from the V850G Plus?

The V850G Plus has a larger table stroke, 800 mm (31.5 in) by 500 mm (19.7 in), and carries 1,100 kg (2,425 lb). U/V travel and the ±30° over 100 mm taper figure are shared. The V850G Plus is listed with a single 350 mm (13.8 in) Z travel, where the V650G Plus lists three.

03 What is the taper capability of the V650G Plus?

±30° over 100 mm (3.9 in), with the wide diamond guide and nozzle. The U and V axes travel 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 in). Wire diameter is listed as 0.15 to 0.3 mm.

04 What does the V650G Plus weigh and how big is it?

Machine weight is 4,400 kg (9,700 lb) and machine size is 2,520 x 2,720 x 2,290 mm (99.2 x 107.1 x 90.2 in). The water tank holds 850 L. Those figures are printed once, without separate values for the taller Z strokes.
