Overview

The Excetek V400G Plus opens the G Plus series: a submerged wire EDM with a 400 x 300 mm (15.7 x 11.8 in) X/Y stroke and all five axes on AC servo motors. It weighs 2,700 kg (5,952 lb) and stands on 2,100 x 2,230 mm (82.7 x 87.8 in) of floor, the smallest footprint in the series.

Its tank accepts the same 750 x 550 x 215 mm (29.5 x 21.7 x 8.5 in), 500 kg (1,102 lb) workpiece as the NP400L Plus, but the two machines are not alike above the table. Z travel here is 220 mm (8.7 in) with a submerged height of 210 mm (8.3 in), and the U and V axes move only 80 x 80 mm (3.1 x 3.1 in). That short U/V stroke sets the taper limit at ±22° over 80 mm (3.1 in) with the wide diamond guide and nozzle. Every larger G Plus model cuts a steeper angle through a thicker section, so taper work is the first thing to check against this machine.

For straight-wall cutting the limits matter less. Wire from 0.15 to 0.3 mm is listed. Excetek's notes on the structure mention a rigid U, V truss, a stainless steel worktable hardened to HRC 50° and a water cooled lower arm meant to stop heat build-up from moving the lower guide.

Two things a buyer might assume are included are in fact on the options list: automatic wire threading (AWT) and XY axis linear scales. The same list carries a W axis, a double door, the Jumbo Feeder L-50A and the Super Finish Circuit. Where AWT is fitted, Excetek describes annealed threading at the break point and threading while submerged, and gives 10 sec for threading at a workpiece thickness of 100 mm. The water tank holds 650 L.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Smallest G Plus footprint: 2,100 x 2,230 x 2,175 mm (82.7 x 87.8 x 85.6 in) at 2,700 kg (5,952 lb)
  • Takes a 750 x 550 x 215 mm (29.5 x 21.7 x 8.5 in) workpiece of up to 500 kg (1,102 lb)
  • Water cooled lower arm and a stainless steel worktable with hardness HRC 50°
  • Five axes controlled, all by AC servo motor
  • Listed wire diameter range of 0.15 to 0.3 mm

Limitations

  • U/V travel is 80 x 80 mm (3.1 x 3.1 in), which holds taper to ±22° over 80 mm (3.1 in); the V500G Plus reaches ±26° over 100 mm (3.9 in)
  • Submerged height is 210 mm (8.3 in) on 220 mm (8.7 in) of Z travel
  • AWT is listed under options, not standard accessories
  • XY axis linear scales are an option as well

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What taper angle can the V400G Plus cut?

Excetek lists ±22° over 80 mm (3.1 in) with the wide diamond guide and nozzle. The figure follows from the 80 x 80 mm (3.1 x 3.1 in) U/V travel, the shortest in the G Plus series. The V650G Plus, with 160 x 160 mm of U/V, is listed at ±30° over 100 mm (3.9 in).

02 Is automatic wire threading included on the V400G Plus?

Not as listed. AWT appears in the options, next to XY axis linear scales, a W axis and a double door. The standard accessories are consumables and setup items: ion exchange resin, two paper filters, two diamond guides, flushing nozzles, energizing plates, a spool of brass wire, a clamping tool set and a vertical alignment jig.

03 How tall a part can be cut submerged?

The Z axis row reads 220 mm (8.7 in) with a submerged height of 210 mm (8.3 in), and the maximum workpiece size is 750 x 550 x 215 mm (29.5 x 21.7 x 8.5 in). Plan around the 210 mm figure for work that must stay under water.

04 How does the V400G Plus compare with the V500G Plus?

The V500G Plus has a 500 mm (19.7 in) X stroke, keeps 300 mm (11.8 in) of Y, and has 120 x 120 mm (4.7 x 4.7 in) of U/V travel with 260 mm (10.2 in) of Z. The V500G Plus is also the heavier machine, 3,500 kg (7,716 lb) against 2,700 kg (5,952 lb).
