Overview

At the top of the range, the Emco Hyperturn 200 Powermill machines workpieces up to a turning diameter of 1,000 mm (39.4 in) and, in Emco's words, a maximum length of 6100 mm. It is a turn-mill centre with a B-axis milling spindle, and its main and counter spindle are identical: 84 kW (112.6 hp) and 6,410 Nm (4728.0 lb-ft) each at up to 1,800 rpm.

Equal spindles matter at this size. A heavy part can be gripped at both ends and driven from both, or handed over and machined on the second side with the same cutting data as the first. Emco also describes both spindles as suited to vibration-damped boring bars up to 1000 mm, with a special magazine as an option, and an additional magazine takes boring bars up to 1500 mm long.

The milling spindle comes in two versions and the table shows the trade: 6500 (10000) rpm and 630 (340) Nm. The high-torque spindle suits face milling and large drills in steel. The faster one gives up nearly half the torque for speed and is the better match for smaller cutters and light alloys. Tool interfaces are HSK-T 100 or PSC80. The magazine holds 50 / 100 / 200 tools with a maximum tool diameter of 120 / 240 mm.

Feed force is listed as 30000 - 20000 - 30000 N and rapids as 30 / 30 / 30 m/min. The machine is 12400-13400-14400-15400 x 4000 x 3400 mm depending on length and weighs 40000-54000 kg (depending from type and accessory). It runs on the Sinumerik ONE.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Main and counter spindle both rated 84 kW (112.6 hp) and 6,410 Nm (4728.0 lb-ft)
  • Milling spindle in a high-torque or a high-speed version: 6500 (10000) rpm, 630 (340) Nm
  • Tool magazine with 50 / 100 / 200 positions
  • Additional magazine for boring bars up to 1500 mm long
  • Feed force of 30000 - 20000 - 30000 N

Limitations

  • Spindle speed is limited to 1,800 rpm
  • The two milling spindles are alternatives: one machine has either the torque or the speed
  • Weighs 40000-54000 kg (depending from type and accessory); overall size is 12400-13400-14400-15400 x 4000 x 3400 mm
  • The product table prints the axis travels without units, so travel figures need confirming with Emco

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How large a part can the Hyperturn 200 Powermill machine?

Emco states complete machining of workpieces up to a turning diameter of 1,000 mm (39.4 in) with a maximum length of 6100 mm. Swing over the bed is 1,050 mm (41.3 in).

02 What milling spindles are available?

Two versions: a high-torque spindle and a high-speed spindle. The table gives 6500 (10000) rpm and 630 (340) Nm, with the bracketed values belonging to the high-speed version. Emco lists HSK-T 100 or PSC80 as tool interfaces.

03 How many tools does the magazine hold?

The tool change rows list 50 / 100 / 200 stations and a maximum tool diameter of 120 / 240 mm. An additional magazine handles boring bars up to 1500 mm long or special tools.

04 Are the main and counter spindle the same?

Yes. Both are listed with 1,800 rpm, 84 kW (112.6 hp) and 6,410 Nm (4728.0 lb-ft). That differs from the Maxxturn 200, whose optional counter spindle is rated 53 kW (71.1 hp).
