Overview

The Goodway GMT-2000ST is the fully equipped GMT-2000: two turning spindles, a B-axis milling spindle above them and a 9-station lower turret beneath. Goodway counts 9 controlled axes on the series, and this is the version that uses all of them.

The lower turret is what changes the economics. It can cut at the same time as the milling spindle, on the same spindle for balanced turning or on the other spindle while the upper tool works on the first. Its own travels are 240 mm (9.4 in) in X2 and 1,400 mm (55.1 in) or 2,400 mm (94.5 in) in Z2, and it turns up to Ø420 mm (16.5 in). Above that diameter, and up to Ø660 mm (26.0 in), only the milling spindle can reach.

Because the turret needs room to travel, the ST is not built on the shortest bed. Turning length is 1,520 mm (59.8 in) on L1 or 2,520 mm (99.2 in) on L2, and Z1 travel is 1,590 mm (62.6 in) or 2,590 mm (102.0 in).

The upper head is unchanged from the other versions: 12,000 rpm, 20.8 kW (27.9 hp) at S6-40%, HSK-T63 or Capto C6, a 240° B-axis, 615 mm (24.2 in) of X1 travel and ±150 mm (±5.9 in) of Y1. Spindle 1 takes an 8 in, 10 in or 12 in chuck; spindle 2 takes 8 in or 10 in. The standard magazine holds 40 tools.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Lower 9-station turret cuts at the same time as the B-axis milling spindle
  • Two turning spindles for complete front and back machining
  • Lower turret Z2 travel of 1,400 mm (55.1 in) or 2,400 mm (94.5 in)
  • 12,000 rpm milling spindle with 240° of B-axis range
  • Magazine of 40 tools, with 80 or 120 optional

Limitations

  • Not offered on the shortest bed; turning length starts at 1,520 mm (59.8 in)
  • The lower turret turns only up to Ø420 mm (16.5 in)
  • The lower turret has 9 stations
  • No tailstock is listed for this version

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What does the lower turret on the GMT-2000ST do?

It gives the machine a second cutting tool. Goodway says the 9-station lower turret works with the tool spindle to perform balanced turning, and that the combination allows more flexible process planning. It travels 240 mm (9.4 in) in X2 and turns up to Ø420 mm (16.5 in).

02 Which bed lengths is the GMT-2000ST available in?

Two, L1 and L2. Maximum turning length is 1,520 mm (59.8 in) or 2,520 mm (99.2 in). Lower turret Z2 travel is 1,400 mm (55.1 in) or 2,400 mm (94.5 in). The shortest GMT-2000 bed is not listed for the ST.

03 How does the GMT-2000ST differ from the GMT-2000S?

Only by the lower turret. Both have two turning spindles and the same B-axis milling spindle. The GMT-2000S is also available on the short bed with 1,020 mm (40.2 in) of turning length, which the ST is not.

04 What tooling interface does the GMT-2000ST milling spindle use?

HSK-T63 or Capto C6. The spindle is a built-in motor design rated 20.8 kW (27.9 hp) at S6-40% with a maximum speed of 12,000 rpm, and Goodway describes a cooling circuit around the spindle shaft and front bearing.
