Overview

The Emco Hyperturn 50 takes the two-spindle, two-turret layout and adds choice at the turret: VDI25 or BMT45P, with the BMT45P version listed in 12 or 16 stations. Bar capacity is 51 (65) mm, turning diameter 300 mm (11.8 in), and the machine fits in 2,930 x 2,330 x 2,340 mm (115.4 x 91.7 x 92.1 in).

The turret choice changes the milling side of the machine. The driven-tool rows read 8000 / 12000 rpm, 4 / 8.8 kW and 16 / 21 Nm, VDI25 first and BMT45P second. So the BMT45P turret has roughly twice the drive power and a higher top speed, and with 16 stations per turret it holds more tools for part families. VDI25 remains the option for shops that already own the holders.

Emco sells two versions. The SM-plus is the basic machine with main and counter spindle and two turrets with driven positions. The SMY-plus adds a Y axis in the upper slide system; its travel is +40/-40 mm, which Emco also states as 80 mm of travel. Only the upper turret has Y, so off-centre milling has to be planned there.

The main spindle is listed as 0-7000 (5000) rpm with 15 (18) kW and 100 (150) Nm, the bracketed values belonging to the larger bar passage. The counter spindle has 15 kW (20.1 hp) and 100 Nm (73.8 lb-ft). Controls are the Sinumerik ONE or the Fanuc 31i-B Plus, both with a 22-inch multi-touch panel. The machine weighs 5,900 kg (13,007 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Turrets available as VDI25 or BMT45P, the latter with 12 or 16 stations
  • BMT45P driven tools: the higher figures in 8000 / 12000 rpm and 4 / 8.8 kW
  • Y axis of +40/-40 mm on the SMY-plus version
  • Rapids of 30 / 15 / 45 m/min in X/Y/Z
  • Footprint of 2,930 x 2,330 x 2,340 mm (115.4 x 91.7 x 92.1 in) for a two-turret machine

Limitations

  • The Y axis exists only in the upper slide system, and only on the SMY-plus
  • With the larger bar passage the main spindle speed falls to the bracketed value in 0-7000 (5000) rpm
  • Turning diameter is limited to 300 mm (11.8 in)
  • The counter spindle stays at 15 kW (20.1 hp) whichever main spindle is chosen

Best For

Medium to large batches of bar parts up to 51 (65) mm Part families needing up to 16 tools per turret Simultaneous machining on main and counter spindle Milled turned parts using BMT45P driven tools

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the Hyperturn 50 SM-plus and SMY-plus?

The SM-plus is the basic version with main and counter spindle and two tool turrets with driven positions. The SMY-plus has an additional Y axis in the upper slide system, with +40/-40 mm of travel.

02 Which turret options does the Hyperturn 50 offer?

VDI25 or BMT45P on both turrets. The station count is listed as 12 / 12 (16): 12 for VDI25, and 12 or 16 for BMT45P. Driven-tool speed is 8000 / 12000 rpm and torque 16 / 21 Nm.

03 What bar diameter can the Hyperturn 50 machine?

The bar diameter row reads 51 (65) mm. The larger passage comes with the bracketed main spindle values, so speed, power and torque read 0-7000 (5000) rpm, 15 (18) kW and 100 (150) Nm.

04 How does the Hyperturn 50 differ from the Hyperturn 45?

The Hyperturn 45 is the VDI 25 machine with 6,000 rpm driven tools and a bar passage of 45 (51) mm. The Hyperturn 50 passes 51 (65) mm and can be ordered with BMT45P turrets.
