How much does the Emco Ecomill S cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Emco Ecomill S that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Emco Ecomill S is the entry to Emco's travelling-column machines and the only one whose bed starts at 3000 mm: longitudinal travel is 3000 - 14000 mm. Cross travel is 1,300 mm (51.2 in) and vertical travel 2,000 mm (78.7 in).
Its drive concept differs from the other two Ecomill models. Emco describes a direct drive system with torque motor, and the spindle motor is listed as 60 kW 330 Nm, with far less torque at the motor than its siblings. At the head the picture is reversed. The universal head delivers 615 / 900 Nm (S1/S6), more than the standard Ecomill head, at 15 ÷ 6000 rpm. So the S gives up top speed, staying at 6000 rpm, and keeps its strength for milling steel.
The equipment is deliberately short. The magazine has 40 / 60 pockets. Through-spindle coolant is 20 l/min; 20 / 40 bar. No head magazine and no high-speed spindle appear in the brochure column for this model, so finishing is done with the mechanical head or an orthogonal head at 6,000 rpm.
Emco says the design gives the best monitoring of the cutting process, a point that matters on one-off work where the operator watches the cut. Feed rate is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm), and the control is a Heidenhain or a Siemens.

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Longitudinal travel is 3000 - 14000 mm, cross travel 1,300 mm (51.2 in) and vertical travel 2,000 mm (78.7 in). The feed rate is 30 m/min (1,181 ipm), the same figure as on the two larger Ecomill models.
02
The universal milling head is rated 38 / 48 kW (S1/S6) and 615 / 900 Nm (S1/S6), with a rotation speed of 15 ÷ 6000 rpm. The spindle motor behind it is listed as 60 kW 330 Nm.
03
The automatic tool magazine has 40 / 60 pockets. The standard taper is ISO 50 DIN 69871 (options: BIG PLUS, HSK-A100 DIN 69893).
04
The Ecomill Plus is taller and wider, with 3,000 mm (118.1 in) of vertical travel, 1,600 mm (63.0 in) of cross travel and an automatic head magazine. The Ecomill S has 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and 1,300 mm (51.2 in) and a simpler head programme.
