How much does the Ecoca VB-1000 cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Ecoca VB-1000 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Ecoca VB-1000 is a box-way vertical machining center with 1,000 mm (39.4 in) of X travel and 610 mm (24.0 in) each in Y and Z. It is the entry model of the VB series, Ecoca's heavier VMC line, and weighs 7,100 kg (15,653 lb), a good deal for a machine with a BT-40 spindle.
The weight is the point. Ecoca says the base carries four guide ways so that heavy loading is distributed evenly, and that the guide ways of all 3 axes are coated with Turcite-B. Wide hardened ways with a low-friction liner are the traditional recipe for damping. They hold a cut steady in steel and cast iron where a lighter linear-guide machine may chatter, and the cost is traverse speed: rapids are 20/20/15 m/min (787/787/591 ipm), with Z the slowest axis.
Spindle figures are conventional. The taper is BT-40, the belt-driven spindle reaches 8,000 rpm and the motor is listed as 15/18.5 kW (20.1/24.8 hp). A spindle cooling system is on the standard accessories list. The tool changer is an armless type with 16 tools.
The table measures 1,200 x 510 mm (47.2 x 20.1 in) and takes 800 kg (1,764 lb). Note that Y travel is longer than the table is deep, so the spindle can reach past both edges of a fixture, which is useful for overhanging plates. A screw conveyor, chip enclosure, guideway cover and cutting air blast come as standard. Shops that want the same X stroke with faster axes should compare the VL-1000, at 24/24/24 m/min (945/945/945 ipm).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Four guide ways on the base and Turcite-B coating on all 3 axes, as Ecoca describes the series
- 7,100 kg (15,653 lb) of machine behind a BT-40 spindle
- 610 mm (24.0 in) of Y travel over a 510 mm (20.1 in) deep table
- Spindle cooling system, screw conveyor and chip enclosure are standard accessories
- 15/18.5 kW (20.1/24.8 hp) motor with 8,000 rpm
Limitations
- Rapids of 20/20/15 m/min (787/787/591 ipm) are slower than the 24/24/24 m/min (945/945/945 ipm) of the VL-1000
- Armless changer with 16 tools
- Table load is 800 kg (1,764 lb), no more than the lighter VL-1000
- 8,000 rpm belt-drive spindle is the only one listed

Only in X. The VB-1200 has 1,200 mm (47.2 in) of X travel, a 1,300 x 510 mm (51.2 x 20.1 in) table, a 900 kg (1,984 lb) table load and a weight of 7,500 kg (16,534 lb). Y and Z travel, spindle, rapids and tool capacity are the same as on the VB-1000.
